Dating back to the turn of the 20th century, the Royal Hall is one of Harrogate’s most iconic theaters. The auditorium seats over 900 people and puts on a variety of entertainment. Admire the regal ballroom with its gold-leaf balconies, dark wood features and a large multipurpose stage.
Check out the excellent program of shows scheduled year round in the Royal Hall. These include stand-up comedy acts, opera and ballet. Attend a musical recital to appreciate the excellent acoustics in this large auditorium.
The theater is also known for its tea dances, when tables with flowers and quaint crockery are laid out on the stage. Chat with friends at a dinner in these majestic surroundings and get up for a dance between courses.
Lining the patterned ceiling are chandeliers, large arched windows and colorful emblems. Marvel at the majestic décor on the walls and sit back and watch the light displays during a performance. Take photos of the Edwardian façade of the building, which neighbors Hall M and Hall A of the Harrogate Convention Centre.
Conferences and seminars are also held in this auditorium. Get tickets to events online or at the box office and choose between the seats in the Grand Hall area and the Grand Circle section.
Note that the architect of the Royal Hall was influenced by the 19th-century Kursaal Oostende in Belgium, which has now been replaced with a modern building. The Royal Hall was initially named the Cure Hall in honor of its muse and Harrogate’s spa origins, before changing to its more patriotic current title.
Find the Royal Hall in the southwestern part of the Harrogate Convention Centre in the northern side of Harrogate’s town center. You can ride a bus to a stop right outside the entrance or walk north from the railway station for less than 10 minutes. Visit some of the nearby sights, such as the Royal Pump Room Museum, Mercer Art Gallery and Harrogate Turkish Baths.
