My Khe Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Da Nang, a beautiful stretch of white sand and clear water. With calm seas and light winds, it is a superb place to visit for a swim, especially if you have young children with you.
The beach came to global attention during the Vietnam War when it was used as a recreational space by Unites States soldiers, who nicknamed it China Beach. Since the end of the war it has become a favoured haunt of locals and visitors alike, and is home to a number of upmarket resorts.
Relax under the shade of an umbrella on your rented sun lounger and enjoy the wonderful views of the bay and the mountains. Go for a stroll along the shoreline, or for something a little more strenuous, a hike through the mountainous forest that borders the beach. If you want to do more than swimming in the sea, try water skiing and scuba diving.
With Da Nang’s tropical monsoon climate, the sea remains a comfortable temperature throughout the year, even during the winter months.
If you haven’t brought a picnic with you, purchase snacks from one of the vendors walking along the beach. There are also cafés and restaurants nearby.
My Khe Beach is located approximately 6.4 kilometres (4 miles) southeast of the center of Da Nang, nestled between the beaches of My An and Non Nuoc. Drive, take a taxi or ride on a bus from the city. Several bus stops are situated a short walk from the beach.
After your visit, travel a few miles further along the coast to the ancient port of Hoi An. This seaside town was a major centre of trade from the 16th century to the 19th century. The old buildings reflect a number of foreign influences, and include Chinese temples and French colonial houses.
