"lili kyoto is not a typical hotel. It is small — three units on the ground floor, probably about the same on the floor above (I didn’t take the elevator up to check). It is totally unstaffed; to get in the front door you must obtain a code from the owner/manager. I got mine by having a nice lady in the Kyoto railway station tourist office call the owner/manager, who promptly emailed instructions. The front “lobby” and hallway are unheated. "It's basically a hostel with single rooms. Mostly quiet but it's impossible to close the room door without making a noise that everyone can easily hear. The price is good but there is a significant cost for late check-in."

"We loved staying here for our one night trip in Kyoto. The room itself is clean and its Japanese style room. Shared bathrooms and showers. It doesn’t have elevator so I wouldn’t recommend to stay here if you have heavy luggages and staying for longer duration. "

"Loved that we experienced this. Clean small room, provided us with nightwear and mattress and blankets to sleep on the floor. Station is 8 mine away connecting to tourists sites bamboo forest. Hotel is next to a beautiful temple and is 15mins away from Kyoto station. "

"Overall I would recommend this place. It's a good budget hostel and has everything that you need."

"A beautiful traditional inn/hotel, our room looked over the garden- very serene and lovely to take an evening walk in (all lit up) and likewise a morning walk (dressed in the provided yukatas). A little further out from some of the main Kyoto tourist spots but that's fitting for the location and Kyoto is very well connected with buses and the subway. Only wish we could have stayed longer! Thank you"

"I like that it is perfect for introverts as there is no need to speak to staff really everything is done independently. I did not like that there is absolutely no way of reaching higher floors without having to carry your luggage & of course I got the top floor & had oversized luggage. I think maybe assigning rooms based on luggage would help. "The ryokan was definitely traditional. It was a wonderful experience, and the duvet was the most comfortable thing for the cold winter nights. We used the private open-air bath twice, once with sudden notice. The hotel staff were still happy to accommodate us despite the hour, and they were overall very kind about everything.
