"lili kyoto is not a typical hotel. It is small — three units on the ground floor, probably about the same on the floor above (I didn’t take the elevator up to check). It is totally unstaffed; to get in the front door you must obtain a code from the owner/manager. I got mine by having a nice lady in the Kyoto railway station tourist office call the owner/manager, who promptly emailed instructions. The front “lobby” and hallway are unheated. There is no breakfast buffet, no vending machines, none...

"Basically a self serve guesthouse. Was not used to waking 3 flights down to take a shower, no hanger for towels at the public washing basin and inside pf public toilet, and no TV. But after a couple of days I got used to it and it was OK. Location very convenient ot subways and buses. Price is right also."

"We loved staying here for our one night trip in Kyoto. The room itself is clean and its Japanese style room. Shared bathrooms and showers. It doesn’t have elevator so I wouldn’t recommend to stay here if you have heavy luggages and staying for longer duration. "

"The guesthouse is quite nice, the dorm I stayed in is just 4 bunks, which is a good thing when staying is guesthouses. The showers were very clean for a shared situations. The location is in a charming district near Kyoto university. It can get a little loud at night with the university students drinking in the area, but that wasn’t really a problem if you have earplugs. "A beautiful traditional inn/hotel, our room looked over the garden- very serene and lovely to take an evening walk in (all lit up) and likewise a morning walk (dressed in the provided yukatas). A little further out from some of the main Kyoto tourist spots but that's fitting for the location and Kyoto is very well connected with buses and the subway. Only wish we could have stayed longer! "The ryokan was definitely traditional. It was a wonderful experience, and the duvet was the most comfortable thing for the cold winter nights. "This hotel is strategically located within a 15 walk from Kyoto Metro station. There are many fantastic restaurants around the area, including shrines and temples that you can visit. Breakfast is served in the hotel and that gives you opportunity to load up on energy before you go out to visit all the fantastic places in Kyoto. In addition, if you sign up for the Kyoto Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour of Kyoto and the bus stops right in front of this hotel for pick-up and drop-off. There is a regular shuttle bus operated by the hotel that goes to and from Kyoto Metro station as well."
