We really liked this as it felt like being in a very normal suburban area, even if this area did bring the world Ronaldo! "This was our second stay at same place. Everything was great except the beds could use an upgrade. Clean and great location. Walking distance to the city centre, very convenient. Corina and Paulo were very supportive and quick to respond."

"The location of the property is excellent. Close to many points of interest and an exceptional view from the upper balcony. We stayed for 4 weeks, so the proximity to local cafes and small grocery stores was very helpful. The major shopping area and large grocery store was 15.minutes walk. The hill to the centre of town is steep, but we were prepared for that. Madeira is beautiful and Funchal is a fascinating town to explore. This property was a perfect base for that. "

"We had a great stay at Three House Hotel. The staff was very welcoming, the room was a perfect size for us and the location was great. Note that if you drive to the hotel do not take the 'fastest route' through the neighborhood as this will take you on very narrow roads with tight turns. Use the main road which the hotel is on."

"We loved it because the weather can be 4 seasons in one day so we made a point of taking a walk every morning for a couple of hours after breakfast. It has private walkways and bridges which provide wonderful short cuts and also access to the other Savoy hotel. The food in the hotel restaurants is exceptional and so we did not eat out in 6 days there (oh once we ate out, meeting friends). Cleanliness including all the toilets just top notch. Service around the pool top notch. Very very difficult to beat (Only the spa disappointed purely from a noise perspective as some drilling was going on but this is rare of course. Wonderful spa). The rooms excellent and sizeable"

Awesome!! But a few minor improvements needed

"I enjoyed my time very much here. I loved that there was parking but depending on the time day of you came back it was often full (only fits about 17 cars), and you had to get creative with parking elsewhere (5 creative spots). If all the creative spots were gone then you would have to park ten minutes away, which luckily didn’t happen to us in early April 2025. I would imagine during high season parking would be very difficult, so don’t stay out too late with your car!! The location was not too far off the highway and offered day tours and hiking tours at reasonable prices on various days of the week. Their indoor pool is NOT INDOOR. It is only covered and is open to the elements, I actually think the indoor pool is colder than the outdoor pool because it is not warmed up by the sun. We used the steam room and dry sauna which was nice but they close early at 7pm which should be open later as people could use it after a long day of hiking! It was relaxing the one time we used it, the second time we just sat in the residual heat. Breakfast buffet is great and has many options, the perfect fuel for exploring the island!! One thing I would say I found annoying is that I often went to the front desk to ask questions and half the time no one would even be there and there is no bell to ring so I would say the service staff were not super helpful at this hotel."

Pestana Carlton Madeira Ocean Resort Hotel

"The hotel is in a great location, with a walkable area and a lot of restaurants around it. We stayed in a room with pool view and were actually able to walk out the room and go straight to the pool. There also was an ocean view from our room, although we never got down to the beach. The staff was friendly and all the amenities were fine. Free parking was limited, especially since it was also being used by the locals. "

"The quality of this hotel was superb, better than the 5* we stayed in previously. The spa facilities are immaculate (heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room, ice bucket, four seasons shower etc.) – the only thing is it can get quite slippery due to the tiling so recommend wearing slippers/sea shoes. Breakfast was nice. We had the buffet one night and it was also good. Free shuttle service to Funchal seafront included. We plan to return! "
