Wolf Point Cabin - Remote Access Retreat

This remote northern Minnesota cabin is located close to the BWCA in a road-less area not far from our Homestead here at White Iron Lake. There is no road to this cabin. In the summer you are picked up in our John-boat and transported to our dock.

In 1999 we bought this wilderness property. No roads. No electricity. No Traffic. No Telephones. Our idea was to have a remote place to escape to yet we can access from our Homestead either by water in the summer season or by ice in the winter season. This property is surrounded by an extensive marsh wildlife area and by Federal land. This assures us of great privacy. This has been a very rewarding experience for our family as we have done all of the construction process ourselves.

We will help transport your gear and supplies to the cabin and back.

The Cabin is 24' x 20' with a loft room. Main floor has a bedroom, kitchen and living room. There is a porch off the living room. There are lots of windows which provides lots of natural light and great outdoor viewing. The inside of the cabin is knotty pine paneling and flooring. There is a woodstove for heating. Propane gas lights. Propane gas stove and refrigerator for cooking. We also have a separate sauna building for your bathing enjoyment. There is also an outhouse located in our property.

We are pet friendly. Our fee is $20.00 a day per dog. Max 2 dogs.

Great Reset Trip
We had a wonderful time at this remote cabin. It was a great way to get away from all the worries of the world. For a place with no electricity or running water, it felt very luxurious. I would come back again. The sauna was great, and the instructions were very easy to follow.

Quiet night in the woods
Gary did an excellent job having the cabin ready for us. This is a guy's fancy cabin with propane for a fridge, stove, and 3 lamps. Although we didn't use the sauna, a real bonus having it on-site. All other amenities provided were awesome and made the trip easy. The cabin rental comes with canoe, paddles, cushions, life jackets, firewood, matches, mattresses, comfortable chairs and eating table, wood stove, fully equipped kitchen, drinking water, books, board and card games, tp, and of course being transported from the boat landing to the dock and then Gary takes your gear to the cabin. No portaging of gear unless you demand it. The woods were perfectly quiet at night and the sky lights up with stars not washed out by city lights.

Gorgeous nature retreat
We felt like we are living in the middle of a lush and beautiful forest. We loved canoeing in the lake and bay, and we’re delighted to see and hear Trumpeter Swans, loons, beavers, and barred owls. The cabin was cozy and we appreciated the full kitchen. Gary was accommodating in every way.

Very nice, quiet, private cabin in the woods
We very much enjoyed our 4-night stay! We were there in the summer so did not use the sauna. It would be an especially nice place to stay in the fall or winter with the wood stove, sauna and fire pit. The really charming cabin is up the hill in the woods accessible by a 5-minute hike up a portage trail. The cabin is not right on the water but there are canoes provided at the access dock. There is a swimming rock and spot to sit a little ways down the shore. There is not electricity so bring back up power pack or solar chargers for phone or tablet. There are propane lanterns on the wall in the main room and a very nice propane refrigerator/freezer and stove/oven in the well supplied kitchen area. Bring headlamps and possibly additional lanterns. Plenty of water was supplied. Gary was very helpful in transporting our gear up and down the hill in an ATV. We had our gear well packed in a cooler and portage packs which was helpful to keep things dry and contained both for the ATV and the boat transport across the lake. The south end of White Iron is pretty quiet with lots of beautiful large pines. We heard sled dogs (or perhaps wolves?) singing in the distance a couple times which was wonderful.

Quiet, peaceful beauty
It was great to get away from it all, enjoying the amazing quietness, the beauty of the leaves changing, and the wildlife sightings. I was glad no one was in the other cabin, so that we had the area completely to ourselves. Having a canoe provided to explore the lake and the hiking trail down at the river was wonderful. There was plenty of water provided by host, and with the propane lights and appliances, and a wood stove for heating, it felt like we were away from it all but still living very comfortably. The upstairs did get warm but with the window open was fine. Gary was very easygoing and helpful. He was prompt to respond before and during our stay.

Much needed getaway
The stay at the cabin "off the grid" was just what we needed to relax and embrace the Minnesota lakes area. The hosts were great and we plan to return in the future with our grandchildren and do some more paddling and soaking up the serenity of the area.

Week getaway
We had a great time at this rustic little getaway. Gary was a trooper for getting all our supplies for the week to the cabin. Loved the hike to the cabin and the nature and seclusion of the property. It was chilly for July so we had a fire in the cabin three nights. Fishing was not great but we expected that for the time of year. We appreciated the potable water and accommodations. Would highly recommend!

Our stay at wolf point cabin was fantastic! The cabin itself is situated in pristine wilderness and is comfortable and thoughtfully built. The surrounding area has so many options for canoeing, especially if you are up for an adventure! The hosts were gracious and responsive - so wonderful to work with.

Adventure in the Woods
This was just the adventure and getaway we were looking for! We came to the cabin after taking a short boundary waters trips, so in spite of the rustic setting, it felt like luxury. We spent most of the time exploring the lake in canoes, swimming off the point, fishing and sitting around the fire. The weather and breeze were great for keeping the worst of the bugs away.

Wonderful getaway for our family.
We enjoyed this cabin SO much! Five of us and two small dogs traveled together. We stayed for four nights. This cabin is a great way to “check out.” The kitchen was well supplied. The only thing I’d recommend is taking a few spices if that’s your thing. Gary supplies plenty of potable water, which we used for hand washing, cleaning up and coffee. We took bottled water for drinking. Gary was very gracious and kind as I felt like we had a lot of “stuff” traveling with two teens and two dogs. He wasn’t phased at all by all of our bags, fishing stuff, bedding and coolers. The lights worked great and supply plenty of lighting for the dark. The loft area was a bit warm in the evening but I’m thinking that was partly due to the propane lighting. It cooled off nicely once we had the lights off and went to bed. Take lots of bug spray! We loved the fire pit area and the pier. So, so pretty at sunset! Our kids enjoyed swimming at the pier also. I’d recommend taking life jackets for the kids. Don’t forget pillows also. Cell phones do work but be sure to take a solar charger if you want to keep them charged. We only worried about keeping one cell charged for emergencies only. I secretly wanted my teens phone batteries to die. ;) No phones allowed a lot of family time, laughs and games together. We had a wonderful time at Gary’s cabin. We highly recommend it for an off the grid experience. Thank you Gary for hosting us. We made many memories!

Very Relaxing Retreat
We enjoyed our trip to Wolf Point cabin very much. Gary was great at communicating with us prior to our arrival to ensure we had everything we needed to have a successful and comfortable stay. The accommodations were very quaint and private. We enjoyed snowshoeing and hiking in the area with our dogs and the cabin was a cozy place for us to relax and unwind by the wood stove. Gary was an excellent host. Thank you for a really lovely experience and for your help with our vehicle as we left, Gary.

LOVED IT!
We found Wolf Point Cabin after a different scheduled rental was cancelled due to wild fire. It could not have been a better trip for us. Gary was wonderful to work with, the cabin was charming and clean, and the fact that there was no electricity or running water made the whole thing seem somehow more wild and special. Highlights of the trip were exploring nearby islands by canoe, numerous wildlife sightings, stargazing, and sitting together around the fire. We are already considering a return trip!

Peaceful Off The Grid Experience
We were forced to piece together a trip after our BWCA canoe trip was canceled on our day of arrival due to fires in the area. We found Gary's cabin by some small miracle and had a wonderful, off-the-grid experience. Frankly, I was thankful to wake up each morning and enjoy a cup of coffee before we went exploring with Gary's canoes. Our college-age daughter did a bit of camping on one of the nearby islands and we enjoyed the antics of the beavers, loons and visiting swans. Gary was so nice and really helped the whole thing go smoothy.

Excellent getaway
Our goal was to getaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life. We wanted some peace and quiet from the chaos of life. We got it!!! Gary and Maggie’s place was private, quiet, peaceful, a distance away. We loved getting in touch with each other and with nature. Only bummer was were not able to enjoy grilling or a bone fire because of fire restrictions. Fabulous! Be prepared for water conservation and outhouse 🤔

Clean and secluded
Family of four (kids ages 4 and 6) and we loved the cabin! It was very impressively clean for such a remote place. No sign of mice, which is equally impressive. The kids loved the boat ride in to the site, and we got out for a canoe adventure each day. The area around the cabin is cleared enough to see the stars, and the kids loved playing with their toys on the rocks outside. A full sized fridge and freezer, as well as a propane stove & oven, made meals easy. The kitchen was well stocked with any cooking utensils we might need. The host also provided more than enough potable water; I think we used about half of the water. I was happy we had our own life jackets for the kids, as the host didn’t have kids sized life jackets. One thing to note is the lake is not great for swimming unless you canoe a fair ways. The nearby shorelines are either very rocky (jagged and slippery rocks) or very mucky. Great for fishing though! Thanks for a great getaway spot. We hope to visit again!

Amazing way to get away from it all
I was nervous about going to a remote spot with just me and three of my kids (10-15). But there was nothing at all to be nervous about. The cabin was amazing. We had a great time. Gary was so nice and made it all so easy and approachable. And no electricity meant no battles with my kids over electronics. While the kids complained endlessly about using the outhouse, it was totally worth it. The scenery is amazing. The lake was fun to canoe in. It's a bit muddy for swimming, but my kids figured out a good way to swim (in lifejackets) so they didn't have to sink their feet into the muddy bottom. Our dog really enjoyed the time to run freely. Without running water and electricity this cabin still had everything we needed! I didn't get the message until the last minute that we needed to bring bedding. But it was hot and we managed to grab a few blankets on our way there at a goodwill. It worked great! We would love to return some day. Just a really great spot.

Exactly what we wanted
Our family love camping. We used to look for primitive camp sites to pitch our tent and feel alone with the nature. Except you are never alone inside campings. This cabin gave us true "alone in the woods" experience. I loved everything about our stay: the log cabin is beautiful, the woods are beautiful and the lake is amazing. There were kayaks available for us to use. Cabin was just as advertised: there is no electricity, but gas stove, gas lights and even gas! refrigerator provides enough of the modern comfort. There is no running water, water is provided in jugs and we had enough for cooking, washing up and sauna. We brought our own bottled drinking water though. Amazingly, our phones had reception there. Just needed to bring extra portable charger to charge them. We loved our stay and we are definitely going back.
