Our issues began with the on-line reservation system. I do not recommend VRBO/EVOLVE at all. I made an error in our dates, and immediately tried every which way to contact them to extend the visit by a day, but they did not respond for almost 2 months (!), and then they wanted to charge an exorbitant fee for the extra day. Needless to say, we did not accept their "offer". The rental home was an attractive log structure with a fire ring in back. It is half a mile from the Gooseberry Falls State park entrance, but heavy, fast traffic on Hwy 61 made it unsafe to walk so we ended up driving into the park every day. The park itself was beautiful. Inside the building however, is where the real trouble began. Previous reviews mentioned that it wasn't very clean, and after 6 months that is still the case! If management had wanted a better review, they would have vacuumed thoroughly, dusted the furniture, and done some deep cleaning of the ceiling fan among other things. The cleaning fee is very high, and yet the cleaners wanted a tip!?!?!? For what they are charging, management could pay their staff better!
The weather on the North Shore is wonderfully cool and comfortable, yet we could not open the windows to take advantage of the night air because screens were busted and the mosquitoes were worse inside than on the deck or hiking in the park! There is a wetland behind the fire pit, perhaps some floating mosquito pellets would help? The mechanism on the bathroom sink plug is disconnected, so it doesn't drain well. The toilet handle has to be held down for it to flush. The grandkids complained of back pain after sleeping on the bunkbeds, since neither of them weighs over 80 lbs, clearly the mattresses need replacement for better support. The kitchen really needs task lighting and a ventilation fan over the stove. Although the unit easily sleeps 7 there were only 6 chairs for the table. All in all, this unit is incredibly , grossly over-priced!
