Buxton Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Hotels

"Our 2nd of many future stays! It's our "home" away from home! The outdoor kitchens we have yet to use & there's two for family & friend gatherings. Air/wayer hoses, corn hole, horse shoe, ice machine, fish cleaning station, laundry onsite, pool, toys and bikes, clothes line, firepits, entertainment area for Sat (seasonal) night boogy. Rooms are renovated, some with walk in showers. Gift shop & Art Gallery on site. Doggie stations w/poop bags, dog play area (fenced), kayack use with life vests. This is the Sweet Spot of Buxton! The staff is AMAZING! I'd give 10 stars if I could! Ready to Beach Bum it out in Buxton then go have one hell of a swell time at the Swell Motel!!!"

"We had the ocean view executive suite and it was excellent. If you are looking for a simple getaway it's perfect. Very clean rooms, comfy beds, and great views. Only con I would say is the pillows are little too soft but that's nitpicky. Definitely recommend for a quiet getaway. "

"I had a great stay in this Buxton house. The price was very affordable for a 7 day stay. The booking and check in process was easy although there were a couple extra steps as the house is owned by another rental property, Vacasa. I had a number to text for any questions and response was quick. The house is located in a cul de sac, just a 5 min walk to the beach. The house was very clean when we arrived with plenty of bath towels. We enjoyed the charcoal grill located right behind the house next to the patio stairs. There were a few beach chairs in the storage which came in handy for our beach outings. The kitchen came with plenty of plates, pans, utensils and bowls to prepare a meal. Only suggestion I have is to bring your own seasonings as there are none in the house, not even salt and pepper. I also wish we also knew about the Buxton beach closure. No fault of the house at all and there were plenty of other beaches with public parking we were able to go to. The closure is due to an old Navy station structure that is leaking petroleum I to the water. I didn't see or smell the petroleum during my stay there but I would suggest staying away from that stretch of beach just in case. Haulover Day Use beach entrance and parking was one we visited frequently, just a 5 min drive from the house. I suggest going to Buxton Seafood and buying some fish to grill. We got tuna, shrimp and Mahi Mahi, they were delicious! Hatteras ferry terminal was about 30 min drive to get to Ocracoke - my"

"We travelled with our 3 year old, my mother in law, and our 2 dogs. The house was very clean with lots of extra toiletries. While the closest beach access (which is pictured in the gallery, as well as mentioned in the house description) ended up being closed off for soil contamination, we were able to find another access down the street. The home was very comfortable with lots of space for our son to play in the evenings, both inside and out. We will definitely visit again!!"

"This house has a beautiful view. Located in Buxton which is a quaint quiet beachy location. Not built up, quiet, beautiful area. The house is as described in previous reviews. Beautiful location but very run down. Someone compared it to indoor camping and that is exactly correct. Beds were comfortable, internet and TVs worked, air conditioning worked for the most part but it wasn’t very hot outside (we were there the week of Debby). While there is an area with pool table, foos ball and ping pong, there was about a 1/2 inch of sand on the ground (this could be due to the cracks in the garage doors) we did sweep it up and no lighting. There were boogie boards, sand toys, beach games etc but everything was cracked or broken.The outdoor shower/rinse off area was all sand, so once you rinsed off, you just got sand on you again. I am pretty sure very little in this house had been updated in the last 25 years. With all that being said, the house is spacious and has potential with a little TLC. Would I stay here again? Maybe"

"Had a great time. The home had so much room for all of us. It was located on a quiet culdesac with a park and a short walk to the beach. The screened porch has a slight ocean view and a great view of the Hatterras lighthouse; a nice place to sit and drink morning coffee. The sound, restaurants and market shopping was a short drive. The home is also a short drive to the Ocracoke Island Ferry. I do wish check-in was a little earlier and check-out was a little later. "

"This was our second time staying at lighthouse keepers retreat and we absolutely love it! We stayed for two weeks this trip and couldn’t have asked for a better vacation. Perfect house, perfect location, and a personable experience all the way around. We feel at home. The owners are outstanding! Can’t wait to come back!"
