We booked a fairly last minute trip. Had been hoping to get an airbnb but ended up at the Ocean Gate “Resort.” While everyone was super nice and accommodating, resort is definitely not the word that I would use. It’s more like glorified camping. Everything is old and although they do their best to clean it, it’s unkempt. We had two rooms and both wreaked of mold and mildew. I understand that it’s a very humid location, but having carpeting in each room only made things worst. The carpeting was actually wet from the moisture! We had a strict “shoes on!” at all times policy. Things also seemed antiquated. Tried watching some TV on a rainy evening, and they didn’t have a smart TV to connect to. First world problems, I know, but it was a pretty pricey place for a “resort” that couldn’t offer the simplest of accommodations. They did have a decent complimentary breakfast and offered kayaks, paddles, and bikes for free which we did take advantage of. We also paid for a water view which was completely blocked by poorly maintained bushes so it felt like we were sold a bill of goods. Despite being organized, staffed by nice people, good recreational activities (bikes, kayaks, paddle boards), and being a quick drive to Boothsbay Harbor (10 mins or less), we will not be returning to Ocean Gate Resort.
