Visit the Wölffer Estate Vineyard to get a glimpse of country life in the Hamptons. Enjoy views of the rows of grape vines and sample the fine wines from the covered stone terrace, then visit the horse stables and enjoy a night out at its Wine Stand or restaurants.
The estate’s chic wine tasting room in the vineyards is centered on a former potato farm. The late Christian Wölffer, a German-born businessman, regularly retreated here from the late 1970s onwards and added prestigious horse stables and a productive vineyard. His legacy lives on through his children who now manage his estate and added the restaurants.
In the tasting room in the heart of the vineyard, browse the photo exhibit of the Wölffer family. Look up to see the antique wooden beams, which form a nice contrast to the chic, modern venue.
Purchase vintage bottles or a more recent favorite from the wines you sampled at the bar in the shop. Linger a while longer to savor a No. 139 DryRosé cider from the tap while you play a backgammon game in the leather chairs in the lounge.
There are several other attractions associated with the Wölffer Estate Vineyard. Head next door to the Wölffer Estate Stables. See the indoor jumping ring and Grand Prix field for Wölffer’s thoroughbred horses. There are 80 stalls and the riding school is open year-round.
The estate’s nearby Wine Stand is a popular venue for drinks on a summer’s day. Bring a blanket or beach chair to enjoy glasses of cool wine with a cheese and charcuterie selection. On a Friday or Saturday, arrive in the late afternoon to watch the sun go down over the vineyard.
The Wölffer Estate also has opened classy wine bars with kitchens on Long Island, one in Amagansett Square and one in Sag Harbor. Book a table to sample locally made artisanal wines, beers and spirits as well as dishes inspired by cuisine from all around the world.
Wölffer Estate on Sagg Road is easy to reach from Southampton Village by car. Free on-site parking is available. The tasting room and Wine Stand are open year-round from the late morning until the early evening and stay open longer on Friday and Saturday nights.
