"We spent 8 nights at Maison L’allee at the end of August. It had everything we needed. Beautiful pool that was exceptionally well maintained. The accommodation is spacious and very well equipped. The pool benefits from the sun all day and lends itself to pleasant sunsets and stunning star gazing. Lyn and Paul are laid back, friendly and discreet. They made us and our two dogs feel welcome. The surrounding area is rich with parks, lakes and activities. There are also plenty of restaurants...

As we were only a couple we were paying a premium, better value for a family. Gardens surrounded the property with plenty of choice of seating, weather permitting."

"Maison très propre et accueillante. Les propriétaires sont très sérieux, c'est moins le cas d'Abritel. J'étais sans nouvelles des propriétaires, j'ai donc appelé Abritel, qui m'a donné le numéro du siège social de je ne sais plus quelle société basée aux pays bas ... Bref on a réussi a se débrouiller et contacter les propriétaires directement, ca s'est bien terminé. J'avais bien indiqué réserver une maison pour 2 adultes et 2 endants, les propriétaires n'avaient pas cette information. "

"It's well located near gorgeous villages, and the garden is beautiful. We had a lovely meal in the garden as the sun set - the exterior of the house is very atmospheric. However, the interior is in desperate need of modernising. The kitchen is rather make-shift and poorly equipped, and the bathroom is tired. With a bit of thought put in (new kitchen/bathroom) and a good clean, the property could be amazing. But for us the big problem was the steep stairs and unsafe rail at the top of the stairs...

"The property is excellent throughout: comfortable, spacious and well-equipped. The garden, with different seating spots depending on the sun's position and strength, is also extensive. I loved the area too, local towns Brantome & Nontron, the Perigord- Limousin Regional Park and the plus beau village of St Jean de Cole. I should hope to return!"

"Lovely, mid-century style, renovated abbey in charming old centre area of Angouleme. While the hotel is a short 15-minute walk from the train station, we arrived late at night and were advised to advance book a taxi to ensure we had transportation to the hotel. Room was spacious, immaculate, bed comfortable, and well supplied with coffee, tea, and a minibar with wines, juices, and a few snacks. Staff were friendly and spoke perfect English, making it unnecessary for us to butcher the beautiful French language 😉. Our breakfast was delightful with local breads, cheeses, and a nice selection of meats, eggs, juices, and coffees/tea. We will gladly return during our next stop in Angouleme. We highly recommend the Hotel Le Saint Gelais as the best option for a stay hotel in Angouleme."

Great location with parking

"Great hotel located bang slap in the middle of town. Good parking on site (€14). Friendly and helpful staff. Hotel clean and comfortable. V good breakfast. Meal in the restaurant Bistro Bardy was ok. (Many thanks to the staff for retrieving our passports which we later discovered we had left in the hotel safe!) "

"Lovely, quirky hotel right in the middle of the city so very convenient for everything. The receptionists were excellent, so bright and helpful. Particularly helped with the parking as it’s quite tricky when the small car park is busy. The rooms were interesting - each seems to have an individual theme with different colours and attractive vintage furniture. Very comfortable with lovely linen bedding. One small thing is that whilst they have tea and coffee in the room you have to get milk from reception which is a minor but unnecessary inconvenience. The rooms were spotless, as were the interestingly decorated communal areas. The only disappointment was the breakfast which was very standard and not so well maintained if you don’t get there first thing. Oddly, they serve your coffee in a jug with no top which means it goes cold very quickly which is very frustrating. "
