Toulon Beach

Toulon Beach featuring general coastal views

Go running along the pretty promenade, cool down with a swim in the sea and make sand castles with the kids on this attractive beach.

Warm Mediterranean water and soft sand entice visitors to Toulon Beach. The sheltered bay features 17 acres (7 hectares) of sand in the Mourillon district to the east of town. Find a spot on the sand among other sun-seekers and enjoy the pleasant weather and beautiful seawater

The beach was built in the 1950s to attract visitors and vacationers to the area. With calm, clean and warm waters, the area is ideal for swimming. If you’d rather stay dry, simply admire the varying blue hues of the water from the beach. In certain parts, the water is completely transparent. Bring a picnic of cheese, bread and wine to enjoy with family and friends.

Many activities and facilities are offered on the beach. Join in a game of volleyball with the locals, toss around a Frisbee or watch the action at the skate ramp. Play a round of mini-golf or take your children to the playground. If you want to stretch your legs, stroll down the Henri Fabre Promenade, which hugs the shoreline.

Dine at a beach restaurant with a view of the shimmering Mediterranean Sea and the fishing boats of the small Port St. Louis harbor. Visit the Fort St. Louis, a 17th-century stone defense fort marking the western point of the beach.

This beach is free to use and remains open year-round. It’s very popular in the summer among sunbathers and swimmers and is perfect for a pensive walk along the shore in the winter.

Toulon Beach is just to the south of the scenic Mourillon quarter. The district is about 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) southeast of the center of Toulon. Consider combining a trip here with a visit to other nearby attractions, such as the Museum of Asian Art, the Fort St. Louis and the military port of Toulon.
