I’ve stayed in a lot of vacation rentals throughout the US and overseas and, unfortunately, this one really stood out. The cabin is mostly as pictured, but it is very much in need of care and attention.
The description (at booking and during our stay) said that the cabin has central air conditioning. It has a single window AC unit. The appliances are in a poor state of repair. Unfortunately, the fridge does not maintain a consistent temperature and I had to throw out much of our food after it froze in the fridge. The microwave is small and the roof was splattered with old food. The washer and dryer were functional but extremely noisy.
Towels are provided, but they were mostly threadbare and frayed. Several had large holes – 6-8 inches long - in them, no better than rags. The kitchen, especially the silverware drawers needed an extensive deep clean. The cabin is poorly lit and many bulbs need replacing – we had to use our phones as flashlights.
There is no WiFi, which wouldn’t be a problem, except that cell service is very spotty, with one bar if you are lucky. It was difficult to reach the host and no instructions, check-in instructions, or directions were provided. It would have been useful to know, in advance, for example, that the road to the cabin is a very uneven dirt road. It is 40 minutes from Traverse city. The trails behind the cabin are fun, but some info or maps would have been useful.
Overall there were many small things that combined to make this an uncomfortable stay. Fortunately, for the owner, most of them could be fixed fairly easily with a small investment. Neither the owner nor Evolve, the management company responded to our concerns. The per night rate we paid was nearly $300 and it’s clear that this was not good value.
