Once a private estate, today this urban park is a place to enjoy botanical gardens, miniature golf and live music performances.

Singleton Park is Swansea’s largest park and one of the green lungs of the city. It spreads across some 250 acres (101 hectares) and incorporates a boating lake, botanical garden and university campus. The history of Singleton Park dates back to 1847, when industrialist John Henry Vivian purchased parkland to create a family estate. Today, visitors come to escape the city bustle, get in touch with nature and attend summer events.

Join the locals that flock to the park to bike, jog and walk along the paths, which wind around undulating green lawns. Sit on a bench, admire the tall trees and watch for mischievous squirrels. Visit the quaint Swiss-style cottage, designed by the English architect P.F. Robinson.

In the park’s northern corner you’ll find the Swansea Botanical Gardens. Discover over 200 species of plants displayed in glasshouses, ornamental gardens and rockeries. Come in spring to marvel at the multicolored rhododendrons and in summer to see the herbaceous borders in full bloom.

Go to the southern edge of the park to have some family-friendly fun on the boating lake. Rent a dragon- or swan-shaped paddleboat and cruise across the gentle water alongside bevies of elegant swans. Challenge family and friends on the obstacles of the 18 holes at the adjacent miniature golf course.

Visit the park in September for the annual Proms in the Park. Bring a picnic and enjoy an evening of an orchestral classical music concert and a spectacular fireworks display. Other music events take place throughout the summer months, including June’s Summer in Singleton 1-day festival and shows by well-known artists such as Paolo Nutini. Sample local food and drink at July’s Sausage and Cider Family Festival.

Situated in the district of Sketty, Singleton Park is a 15-minute drive from Swansea’s city center. Public buses travel frequently between the park and Swansea Bus Station. Parking is available close to the boating lake.

Singleton Park is open daily and fees are applicable for boat rentals and miniature golf. Swansea Botanical Gardens is open daily and admission is free.
