Beware - host will keep your damage deposit! Protect yourself. Video property on 1st & last day.
Our stay was great. I wish I had more characters to describe the property.
The handrail came loose from the wall. We immediately notified the host. We aren't complainers and said we didn't need immediate attention. The checkout instructions in the binder were very simple - start dishwasher & take out trash, We cleaned out the fridge/freezers, started the dishwashers, swept, cleaned counters, emptied the trash, stripped the linens and started the washer for towels and sheets - like we always do.
So I was completely surprised when I received a text from the host that they were keeping our damage deposit!
1. The railing - which we had reported. I had pictures that the railing was improperly installed. Only attached with brad nails/not attached to any studs. They agreed it wasn't acceptable and would notify their maintenance but were still charging us!
2. They charged for 3 xtra hours cleaning. For a wet bath mat, crumbs on the floor of the theater room & a "white substance" on the leather chair/spot on a bean bag. The pictures they provided do not support 3 hours of work.
3. Other things they said were broken during our stay - the pop-a-shot game (idk if it was broken or incorrectly repaired previously) and a folding chair which was already broken.
4. Days later after new guest checked in they are mysteriously "finding" other things.
I will file a dispute with VRBO.
