misrepresented property
When the reservation was made the property represented that it had air conditioning throughout, including the kitchen and living room. Upon arrival we discovered this was false. We notified the owner, and he offered a partial refund. He said it would not be possible to provide the air conditioning that was represented in his listing. We did not stay at the property, as without the promised air conditioning, it was not inhabitable. We informed the owner that we could not stay without air conditioning. We never would have reserved a property in an area with high temperatures, that was not fully air conditioned. Due to the misrepresentation we left the property. VRBO honored their guarantee, and we were given a full refund.

Amazing place; wanted to stay longer! Warm!
Everything is as they say and better. We rented a car and went to Monterrico to see and participate in the baby sea turtles release to the ocean ; went deep sea fishing and Antigua, which is a beautiful colonial town. Wished had more time to go to active Volcán Pacaya. Enjoyed the house, prívate beach and seafood that we bought from a guy that came to the house! Very recommended!

Didn't Want to Leave
This is the place to be if you're planning a trip to the Pacific Coast of Guatemala. Puerto Quetzal is about 10 miles from Puerto San Jose. We had everything we needed. The home is completely furnished. It has a great kitchen with an electric stove and oven. This was perfect for us as we did all of our cooking. Each bedroom has air conditioning, toilet, sink and shower. The beds are very comfortable. We spent most of our time at the pools. Our grandson who is 6 years old loved the smaller pool. Our nephews and nieces loved the larger pool on these hot Guatemala days. We drove to the beach each day which is a very short drive. Beautiful. We ate all our meals in the outdoor dining area. The outdoor living furniture is the best. The game room included a pool table and ping pong table. We all enjoyed this area. The grounds keeper and the housekeeper are the best! They both have much information on the area. Very delightful people. Oscar, the owner is wonderful. I will return to this property on my next stay in Guatemala and for a longer time. Please be sure to read the other reviews.

Fantastic doesn't begin to describe it!!!
San Marino was everything we expected and more! The villa is as it appears in the photos (actually seems larger with all the rooms) and is well-maintained by the staff -- Israel (who looks after the exterior grounds and cleans the pool each morning) and Bernarda (house-keeper and cook extraordinaire). We purchased our groceries at La Torre in Puerto San Jose (a 5 minute drive up the road) and Bernarda prepared breakfast, lunch, and dinner for us each day. She picked up fresh limes as she walked to work each morning and made limonada with them for us -- it was the best I've ever had! Bottled water is provided by the owner. The pool is lovely and the waterfalls are not only relaxing but also drown out any noise from the nearby road the villa backs onto. Each room has its own 3-piece washroom, A/C unit, and ceiling fan. The house is very secure with guards posted throughout the community. The black sand beach is a 15 minute walk away inside the gated community with good waves for body surfing (or in my case, giving the kids on the beach a laugh). We found that there were mosquitoes as we lounged around the pool, but applying a little bug spray solved the problem. Oscar is a terrific host. He's very knowledgeable and was always available to answer our questions regarding the area or anything Guatemala-related. Knowing he was an email, text, or phone call away was reassuring as we navigated the area. A car is a must if you're staying here. San Marino (near Puerto Quetzal) isn't near anything -- you'll need it to travel from the airport, get groceries, and see the sites. There is a Pollo Campero Express and Domino's nearby, but that's about it. The gas station across the road has a small convenience store with drinks, alcohol and ice cream. Johnny's Place in Monterrico is worth the drive -- great food and they had the best Quetzales / USD exchange we found. Definitely hit Pacaya in the morning (ask for David among the local guides -- speaks English pretty well) and then head up the road to Amatitlan to the Santa Teresita Spa to soothe those muscles in the Thermal Circuit. Antigua is another great day trip. If you're using Google Maps, please watch your route -- it likes to send you on nameless dirt roads! Also make sure you have some Quetzales for road tolls. In short, we'll definitely be back -- be it here or at Oscar's other rental property in Antigua. It's a beautiful property with a fabulous staff who do their best to make your stay a pleasant one.
