Property dated but location lovely. Sunsets/swimming very nice. Advertised that house sleeps 12--no way. It's a 3 bedroom house. We had 11 guests on two nights of stay and two guests had to find other on-island accommodations, which was okay, and went unmentioned to owner. (It sleeps 8-9 comfortably.) Happened to have a major storm on island with hurricane-strength 80 mile winds, which knocked out power for 24 hours, and damaged property--which is where problems started. Owner's communications had been a little odd before check in--he railed about how prior horrible guests this summer had stolen his towels. Upon check out he texted, "thanks for trashing my house," and went on to accuse our party of extensive damage, notably vomiting on a bedroom wall and on mattress--a room which happened to be in the room my wife and I slept all week. It just couldn't have happened--my wife is a neat freak/interior designer princess and the pea type who spent week keeping place neat. He sent photos of alleged vomit we left. The most charitable explanation I can offer is that cleaners somehow failed to notice/clean before we arrived and we slept all week with dried puke behind bed. (Gross, right?) Strap us to polygraphs: I SWEAR ON MY KIDS' LIVES, NOBODY PUKED IN THAT ROOM THE WEEK WE WERE THERE. Also accused of damaging screens that were ripped off by a falling tree on the property. 4 adults cleaned for 90 minutes before leaving property--and even hung clean towels even though it was not requested by owner. After receiving increasingly unhinged accusatory emails from owner while still on the island--he was texting from his home in New Jersey, hadn't personally inspected house--we returned to property to inspect ourselves. 90 minutes after check out, cleaners were gone and place was immaculate. Hoped we might agree to disagree, and reached out (politely i might add, despite his invective/profanity) but there seemed to be no reasoning with owner. Can only assume his review of us as guests reflected his unfounded, ridiculous accusations. ANYONE who dares stay here and risk VRBO rating absolutely MUST take pictures of entire property upon check in and out, move beds away from walls to find dried leftovers from past guests, see if there's ANYTHING owner will try to pin on you after you leave. We've been renting through VRBO and other major sites that we can't mention in reviews with only great experiences, feedback, ratings. Absolute worst rental experience so far.
