Best things about this beach house:
-Uncrowded beach! Only the folks living/vacationing in the Gulf Pines hood are on this beach. It’s nice. Like reeeeally nice. I hate crowds, especially a crowded beach. This was perfect.
-Mostly clean house. Little dusty on baseboards and top of rods/beds/lamps, but it’s a nonissue. I’m just a freak and notice all the small things that need to be cleaned. But the house is super functional and serves its purpose as a beach house.
Comfy beds. All the stuff you need for the kitchen. Dull knives need to be replaced though.
-It’s a super quiet area. Very peaceful. Family friendly. Just an awesome place. We feel like we discovered a hidden gem.
-My husband went fishing right from the shore. He caught several different types of fish, including a bonnet head shark. He did say the fishing is better in the bay where the waves are not bashing.
-The screened in porch is the bomb. No bugs (lots of bugs after sundown in mid-July, but none during the day), no sand, just a great place to relax and eat when not on the beach. Also breezy.
-The house is relatively close to other cool areas of exploration such as Mexico Beach/Shell Island, St. George Island, Appalachicola (cute shops there)—beware though! All the shops in Port St. Joe close at like 5/6. Every day. And not opened on Sundays. Even the bait and tackle shops close super early. That was frustrating, but what can you do.
Things that didn’t bother me but wish I had known:
-The water here at this house is murky. Maybe it was the time of year (I know nothing about the ocean in this way), but very murky. The waves were big most days. Perfect for boogie boarding. Super fun to take a kayak out on and ride back in. The pictures show turquoise water. Not so. Just FYI in case you’re looking for that certain clear, aqua water.
-This beach house does not provide ANY beach gear. In my experience, beach houses usually have chairs and kids’ toys and all that for you leftover from others or whatever. Not this place. It’s all locked up in the attached shed. So, just know you’re gonna need to bring it all. Also, the pics showed a lot of rockers and more chairs at the bottom deck, but those were locked up as well.
Overall, this place is fantastic. We would 100% return.
