The town of La Orotava is well-known for having the greatest altitude range in the whole of Spain, with a municipal area that goes from sea level to 12,200 feet at the peak of Mount Teide. It's easy to get tired just thinking about it! Don't panic, it's easy to find magnificent beaches on which to relax and switch off. Visit El Ancón, an unspoilt cove of volcanic sand from which Puerto de la Cruz can be seen in the distance. Right next to it you will find Los Patos, a Mecca for surfers and nudists.
Although La Orotava's average annual temperature is 17.6ºC, you don't need to be a great beach lover to fully enjoy your stay on the island. How about a visit to the Marquesado de la Quinta Roja gardens? Corinthian columns, beautiful fountains and other elements will take you back to another era. Don't miss the Casa de los Balcones, an architectural delight from the 17th century. The building is famous for its wooden balconies and courtyard and today houses a museum. Take one of our La Orotava valley holiday packages and follow the Ruta de los Molinos, that will take you to ten grain mills from the 16th century as you explore the area. Currently, only two of them are still in operation, grinding the flour to produce gofio, the local food that gives flavour to the Canary Islands.
A bus line departs from Tenerife Norte airport and will take you to La Orotava in just one hour. Book one of our great La Orotava valley getaways and you will only have to worry about enjoying yourself!
