"Great little getaway on the quiet side of the big island. Turnoff from main road is difficult to see at night, so the owner came out and set a light for us. Can't ask for better service than that, honestly. Room has a well-equipped ensuite kitchen. Ka'u is farm country, so it's good to be able to do one's own cooking and coffee-making. Bathroom was nice; hot water worked well. This is a good base for visiting the green sand beach and Volcano national park. There are also a lot of nice secluded beaches nearby (owner can give recommendations). The area is pretty rural and there aren't a lot of services, but the people are friendly and the services that do exist are adequate."

"I want to be very clear about this...Reviews are typically sort of "pass/fail." Anything less than 5 stars is a "fail." In this case, the property is an EMPHATIC 5 stars! The home is exactly as pictured. Watching the waves crash on the volcanic coast and come up through the blowhole on the property was mesmerizing. The hosts communicate well. We arrived to a home with Hawaiian music playing and lights on as we arrived at dusk. Really nice touch. Now, also be aware that this property is remote, so if you want to be in town and close to restaurants, etc, this is not the place for you. Be sure to locate it on a map before you commit to be sure it will meet your demands. It greatly exceeded ours! This is a peaceful slice of heaven. Be sure to hike down the coastline which is all lava and provides never ending variations in the ways in which the waves crash into the rocks. Kudos to Carl and Debbie who are true 5 star hosts."

"1st time at a yurt. The room was nice. The place was in a more secluded area, but not far from highway access. Being far out, there wasn't a sewer system in place, so the toilet system took us off guard. Overall, nice place and staff was great to work with. "

"The “Mongoose Manor” was a perfect place to stay on the south of the island. The hosts do a great job of taking care of your needs and the elevation above sea level is perfect for sleeping, with cool nights (no A/C needed). The days warm up but are still very comfortable if you decide to stay in. There are good beaches for snorkeling within 30 minutes, as well as the green sand beach and the black sand beach where there’s almost always sea turtles out sun bathing. If you’re big on cooking, the kitchen is very compact but is enough for light meals. Overall it was a great experience and we would definitely stay there again if needing accommodations on the south Side of the island."

"Here you will find a home surrounded by a beautiful garden with a very large covered deck overlooking the ocean to the west. Stunning sunrises, warm breezes, and a canopy of stars and the Milky Way at night uninhibited by city lights. The home is as described, but more. Comfortable, welcoming and everything you would need. You experience a bit of the homeowners love of this island in the decor and gardens. For us, the location was ideal - away from the popular beaches, tourist shops, etc. Here you are close to The Volcanic National Park and many “gem” locations listed in travel guides. This is Kau coffee country (look up the history of the emergence of Kau coffee and Kona coffee). We enjoyed farm/fruit stands, local markets, and wonderful local places to eat and find local artist creations. The aloha spirit was so welcoming as we talked with locals. Hilo and the other side of the island is easily accessible. Go, see, experience... Hawaii, e noho mau ana oe iloko o ko'u naau a me na moeuhane. A hui hou kakou. (Translation - Hawaii, you will always be in my heart and dreams. Until we meet again. ) "
