Great place to unwind
Colleen's place is close to downtown Auburn (<20 min drive) and the American River/Folsom Lake junction (<5 min). It's a beautiful spot to unwind. My dog and I loved the grassy yard and hammock right outside of the unit.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this very special place. We loved every moment of our stay at Colleen’s bunk house, The horses and other animals are tremendous… and Jax is such a loving dog, it was a joy to have him around. Beautiful area in the Sierra foothills and the stars are amazing at night and in the early morning. Highly recommend!

This property sits on a horse boarding ranch and is as quiet as it is charming. We had breakfast out on the lawn overseeing pastured horses grazing. It was picturesque!

We love the horse ranch
A beautiful horse ranch in Newcastle. The king-sized bed is comfortable and the bunk house is great. This is our 4th time back. It’s only 30 minutes from home and a great place to relax.
Colleen, the owner, is so friendly and accommodating. She’s great. We will be back. PS: your dog is welcome there. 🐶

Wonderful!!
We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely bunkhouse at Whirlawind Ranch. The place is very clean and comfortable. The bed is great for a perfect night sleeps. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to find ranch eggs in the frig , a bowl of water for our dog and the kitchen was stocked with the basic amenities. The grounds are beautiful and we loved watching the horses in the pasture and the experience of being on a working ranch. We will be back!

Lovely experience
This property provides pure pleasure in nature. A truly pastoral setting! The host, along with her staff & others, care for horses, chickens, cats, & a dog named Jax. Oh! I almost forgot the two donkeys! And, of course the rooster! Children AND adults will delight in this ranch/farm as they breathe in the country air.

Waiting for the snow to melt....
We were forced to find a place to stay, for 30 days, while waiting for the road to our summer home to be cleared of snow. We're so glad to have come across this listing in VRBO.
Our hostess, Colleen, was more than gracious, welcoming us with muffins and fresh-laid eggs.
We never got bored of being there, always something happening: the horses going in and out of the barn morning and evening, the mini-donkeys breying, the chickens always clucking around the yard, and especially the ever-present Jak keeping watch on the herd and made friends with our dogs.
The location is amazing: far enough away from I80 to feel "country", but close enough to Auburn to pop out for Chinese food.
The place was perfect for us and we plan on staying there in the future.

Above and Beyond - Expectations Exceeded!!
This was hands down the best VRBO experience I’ve ever had! It’s all because of the hostess, Colleen - she is so, so kind and thoughtful, and generous with her time. Fresh eggs and muffins were waiting for us for our next day’s breakfast. She took the time to talk to us and recommend nearby hiking trails and there’s even a pass you can take so you don’t have to pay parking. She’s an expert on the area’s recreational offerings and has such an impressive past with all of her horse experience! We really enjoyed talking with her and learning about each horse - she even let us groom and feed them! The ’bunkhouse’ is really cool and has all the amenities you’d need - so clean and organized, and comfortable! The outside area is perfect for outdoor dining - there’s even a fire pit she keeps ready for you. The property is beautiful and surprisingly close to many hiking trails - just a couple minutes from Folsom Lake - and not far from our favorite, the Confluence. Look no further - I promise you you’ll have a great experience!

Idyllic
We needed a someplace quiet, fireworks free, that would accommodate two large dogs for a couple of days around the 4th of July. This fit the bill perfectly. Not one firecracker heard to traumatize the dogs during our stay. The host is easily accessible and responsive. A binderful of local info available, plus books and games. The beds and pillows were very comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. The cottage is the old bunkhouse, but it has been updated to an attractive country modern with a really nice bath remodel. It is attached to the barn and only feet away from the paddock. Getting to watch the horses pass right outside our window while being moved from field to barn was the highlight of our quiet mini-vacation. The dogs enjoyed it too.
You are less than 5 minutes drive from a boat ramp and access to Folsom Lake.

Simply stunning property
We stayed here a month while in between homes. On moving day we arrived in the evening exhausted and were so surprised to see this stunning property as we drove up. It was like arriving at heaven after moving all day.
After waking up and looking out the windows in the morning I couldn’t believe we had the honor of staying such a beautiful place. It’s completely relaxing and peaceful.
The horses are wonderful to watch as well as all the other animals.
Jax, the family dog, is so friendly and will probably meet you in the morning to say Hi.
Jax also, loves his treats! We miss him!
You’re also, just down the road from Folsom lake which is beautiful.
Colleen, the host, is wonderful and couldn’t be more pleasant to talk to. She actually gave us the name of her mortage broker, which absolutely helped us get into the house that we are now buying.
So, without coming and staying at this wonderful property we would have never found our new mortgage broker who has helped us get into for our forever home.
We are forever grateful to Colleen and her all her help!!
Thank you Colleen for all you’ve done for us!!!
