A Great Place for a Break
This is a beautiful lakefront property nestled among the pine trees. It feels incredibly private and remote and yet you're within easy access to major shopping centres for supplies.

Delightful cottage
Prior to our stay we had some questions and Iris, the owner, was prompt to respond. The housekeeper met us when we arrived and made sure we had everything we needed for our three week stay and gave us her number in case any issues arose. The cottage was clean and comfortable and had a beautiful lake view from the spacious deck. The area is very rural - quiet and private. The lake is clean and we took our kayak out almost every day. It would be hard to find a more idyllic setting.

Simply Wonderful
We’re an active retired professional couple who look for both peace, privacy, and serenity mixed with physical activity when on vacation. The property allowed both of that, and more. The cottage was clean, quiet, efficiently laid out, and well stocked with almost anything that one can possibly require. We had the pleasure of meeting the property keepers, and their dog Duke and grandson Chase - what delightful people. We spent many hours on the lake with the supplied canoe and our own kayak, and cycled from in the cottage with our trail bikes. One day we drove to Bridgewater (30 minute drive) and cycled 30 km on their Centennial Trail. Overall we were very pleased, and only have positive comments about our experience.

Nature at it's best
This is a beautiful log home that is fairly isolated and exactly what we wanted. If you want some place with manicured lawns and fancy gardens, don't stay here. The internet is free and other than streaming music, I would have no need for internet on vacation. We were there to enjoy one anothers company and relax in a peaceful setting. Everything you need is there. There was only one top sheet, which I prefer, but not everyone uses them. The duvet covers were clean and obviously washed between stays. The housekeeper Nicki was great and brought a duvet cover over to use as a top sheet on the other bed. I should have thought of that because there were extras in the room. The kitchen is well stocked and has everything you need. There is no microwave but we managed quite well without one. The barbeque is charcoal and we actually loved it. There were enough coals provided that we were able to have two barbeques. If you know nothing about them, you may want to google it. You need to start the coals about an hour before you plan to cook. The taste of food on a coal barbeque is amazing. I'm happy to have my propane at home but I remember when we all used coal and it was a nice change. We didn't use the firepit but there was lots of wood for a nice fire. Lots of wildlife around and I was amazed by the hummingbirds who obviously loved the flowers planted around the property. We saw a little bunny a couple of times and even a little mouse. Mice aren't just pests, they live in the outdoors and none were in the cabin. Sitting on the deck hearing the loons and birds was fantastic. We didn't get out in the canoe but did go swimming a couple of times. There is a lot of grass in the water but removing it isn't good for wildlife and it's forbidden in some, if not all, lakes in Nova Scotia. If you walk over to the left where you see a break in the grass, you'll be able to get in. Some people would prefer water shoes, we had no problem without them. Overall we loved ! It may not be for everyone but if you do your research you'll end up in a place that suits your needs and wants.

Not What It May Seem
This property has no A/C, ventilation, TV, or microwave, so we would advise anyone who is thinking about renting this property to think twice about any assumptions you might make regarding the amenities that are or are not being offered. The wooden railing around the outside deck is rotting amd unsafe in some areas. The trash can in the cabin is very small, and you have to drive or take a long walk to the trash containers. The shoreline of the lake next to the cabin is covered with algae and is also very muddy. No outside water hose is provided to clean yourself or your footwear after exiting the lake. No ceiling fans are installed in the bedrooms. The property manager was very nice and brought some fans, but since it was nearly 90 deg. F outside, they weren't very useful. We used the grill for cooking dinner after we arrived, and then decided to leave, so we didn't have time to wait for the charcoal to cool down so it could be cleaned. We asked for a refund, but the owner refused and said our comments about the property were disrespectful, and that we should have cleaned the BBQ before we left.

Overall the property was excellent. Pleasantcaretaker.
A terrible unusable BBQ. Living room fan and light on same switch- not good. One of the cords on the fan does not work. I fixed the sliding screen door for you. Had to leave a day early because of the unbearable heat. Wish we had fans available. A microwave would be nice so not necessary to use stove. What a lovely building! A great spot for a seculded vacation. You could consider a small cooking pot. Long way to a store so it would have been nice to know and we could had brought fans, a small BBQ that works and a small pot etc. Thanks for the use or the property. My letting you know about the shortcomings are not complaints as much as for your information. Too bad the heat forced us to leave early but that's nature at work. Overall worth the money for sure.

The property was as advertised. Super clean and comfortable. A wonderful place, close enough to amenities, but also private enough for a quiet getaway.

My husband I stayed with friends there for 3 days. Beautiful spot the place was very clean . Iris was very easy to communicate . We absolutely loved our stayed there. Beds are not very comfortable and for the price the bedrooms could of been more comfortable there was a plastic drawer in the bedrooms and beds were squeaky The view was fantastic.Loved to canoe there. The balconies was large and lovely. Overall we had a great time there and recommend.

Peaceful and quiet
Sunrise pines is the perfect location and backdrop for a relaxing, calm and quiet getaway. A lovely balcony allows you to enjoy all the sights and sounds of the lake comfortably. Check in and check out was easy and they were more than accommodating with any questions and requests. The cabin is well stocked and the amenities are more than suitable for a comfortable stay. If you are looking for a picturesque location away from a busy lifestyle and people this is the spot. A lovely place hosted by lovely people. We would definitely go back and recommend this location to all.

Peaceful sanctuary
This log cabin is very secluded and peaceful and filled with sunlight. My friend and I stayed for four nights at the cabin. The queen beds were very comfortable with cosy duvets. We both slept well. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed, except for a teapot, but we found one at a local store and left it there for future guests. There are pantry staples for guests use, but check the expiry dates before using. The owners put a lot of care into building a natural, nontoxic cabin with an air exchanger, which I value very much. The unfortunate thing was the myriad of toxic chemical cleaners under the kitchen sink, the perfumed dish soap and hand soap dispensers, and the smell of scented detergent on some of the linens. It would be nice to have non-toxic cleaning supplies available, as well as scent-free linens for a truly healthy get-away experience. The wrap-around deck and the view of the lake was wonderful. You have to wade through some reeds and algae on the lake bottom to get into the water, so I suggest bringing some water shoes if this will bother you. In the lounge area, there are two nice, white loveseats facing one another with a heavy glass coffee table in between. It felt a little too formal for a retreat space, and you couldn't fully stretch out, but there were comfy pillows and blankets that provided coziness. There were a few surprises... Firstly, there was a chain and padlock around the woodstove. Apparently, for insurance purposes, it's not available to renters, however, this was not indicated in the ad at the time we booked. Secondly, the bbq uses charcoal, not propane. You buy your own charcoal to use it more than once (and you are asked to leave a donation if you use the charcoal or the firewood for an outdoor fire). We spent an hour trying to find charcoal since it was a little beyond bbq season. However, we really enjoyed the flavor of the food on this kind of fire (hint: use a paper towel soaked in cooking oil under the briquettes as fire starter). Thirdly, a recent hurricane had damaged the wifi, so it was not available. This was not conveyed to us before our arrival. Luckily, we were not on a working vacation. Overall, we really enjoyed our time at the cabin. We got the relaxation and peace we were seeking and we would return again.

Weekend hideaway
We had a lovely long weekend getaway from hectic city life. It felt like we could have easily gotten lost on our way to Sunrise Pines, but the instructions provided were easy to follow and kept us on track. Once there, you would never know that there were other cottages nearby. All was so quiet and peaceful. Shingle Lake is perfect for canoeing. We saw osprey and hawks and loons, fish jumping...all sightings delighted our three year old, who told us numerous times that she loved the cottage. We could have easily stayed a lot longer.
