We had a great time at the beautiful property, with enough room to spread out, which is unusual for our large family.

The home was a great place for our group of friends that travel together. It’s in a beautiful location and setting. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

I had booked 2 other rentals, both of which had to cancel the booking for various reasons. I'm very glad they did as we wouldn't have ended up here. It was absolutely perfect. Beautiful home, easy walk to the dock, plenty to do indoors if you happen upon rainy days. 10/10

The house was lovely. The rooms were spacious, clean and not much was missed when it came to supplying everything one could need/want for a family to enjoy a few days in the countryside of North Carolina. However, there were just a few minor things that could be done to make it even more comfortable (if that was even possible).
In a few of the windows there were drafts of cold air escaping. We had to block the air with blankets so that those rooms where the beds were near those windows the cold air would not blow on them, i.e.,downstairs back bedroom with the double beds.
TV's in bedrooms would be so nice. I for one like to watch the late night news before going to sleep.
You need to have Luggage stools in each bedroom. We all had to leave our suitcases on the floor and take our clothes every day out of them. This involves a lot of bending over. Some more chairs in each of the bedrooms would have been nicer too. I could not sit anywhere in the bedroom I had. Even if there was a small chair (that back bedroom again) I could sit and read my emails or even read quietly alone - away from others in the main living rooms.
As a safety feature, some kind of railing going down the back steps to the boat dock should be installed. I did not venture down because I was afraid of falling.
The very steep driveway in front of the house was scary. When we first go there it was almost dark, we got a bit afraid. Coming from Florida which is so flat, we were not sure we could get down (or come up again) but we did and then got used to it. (How would you ever safely get down that driveway in the winter if there was ice????)

Large kitchen. Plenty of room and amenities for rainy day entertainment. Theater downstairs is nice and comfortable. Clean. Accommodating for large groups. Our teenage kids had a couple friends join us and we peaked at eleven people in the house. There was still plenty of room.
Quiet cove great for swimming. Boat rental a must.
We had a blast!

This was the perfect home away for our family. Most of our time was spent in and around the water. The house has everything you need – kayaks (included), pontoon boat (available from home owner as additional charge), as well as jet skis (from marina about 3 miles away). House has home theater, board games, pool table as well as foosball table. Beautiful kitchen and dining area. Hiking and good dining nearby. Highly recommended. A++.

This is the second year we've stayed here. It works out great for our extended family gathering. Nearby mountain biking trails, state park, waterfall hikes, tennis, and more were all enjoyed, but the highlight each day was taking the pontoon boat out for an after dinner cruise to watch the sun set.

We loved this house-------beautiful views of the water in winter, from most bedrooms and living areas---Gourmet kitchen with everything you need---huge bedrooms with comfortable beds--clean---easy check in--the game rooms, theater room and separate places for naps, cards, reading, dominoes and the most perfect puzzle table with center lazy susan. We had the gas fireplace going all week with some snow still on the ground. With winter storm coming we were offered extra days, late check out and most importantly, flexibility. Thank you Veronica

The house had anything and everything you could ask for. We also rented the boat and had a great time tooling around the lake. Not a tremendous amount to do in the area when you left the house, but not one complaint about the house!

This house was one of the most stocked houses in every aspect. The gourmet kitchen had a plethora of appliances and gadgets to cook with. The game room had so many options to keep us busy in the Evenings and with the few rain showers that passed. Our favorite as an old time game of Rock Band! Valerie has everything organized and thoughtfully labeled so you can maximize your stay. She even has a beautiful pontoon boat that I highly recommend renting as it gives you the opportunity to enjoy the lake even more.

A retreat in every sense of the word. My family and I had such a fantastic time for a short stay at the Lakehouse Retreat. Everything you need and more is provided and is an awesome vacation stay for people of all ages! Plenty to do but also plenty of ways to relax. Truly a gem. We can’t wait to stay again next year!

Of all the vacation homes we have rented (and there are many), this was by far our favorite. From the moment you step through the front door you feel at home, as the house has all the amenities you would ever need to enjoy your time there, even if it was not on a lake! The game room and theater room were a huge hit during the brief rainstorms that rolled through each day, the kitchen is very well stocked and made for easy meals, and the main level deck served as our dining room each day, starting with our morning coffee. Beds and furniture are all very comfortable, there are plenty of towels and sheets and, most importantly, plenty of space to spread out. All this and we have not talked about the best part - the lake!
With easy access to the water, multiple covered porches and the hammock and fire pit at the water’s edge, it is an extremely peaceful setting. The lake is very clear (a rarity in NC) and we had a blast paddling every day on the provided SUPs, kayaks and tubes, and the covered dock served-up some much needed shade for afternoon naps on the water. The views of the lake and surrounding mountains are incredible, and we even used the roof deck on the dock to take in a meteor shower! Of course we also need to mention the new friends we made, as our son was super excited that we got to “hang out” with a family of blue herons that live in the cove.
In all this was a wonderful week at an amazing property, and the hosts were in constant contact the entire time to ensure we enjoyed our stay and had everything we need. A truly exceptional vacation and we will certainly be back (pretty sure we are already booked for next summer!).

The house is totally amazing in every way! You could not ask for anything else for comfort and beauty. Every possible want was taken care of from the amazing comfortable bedding to the magnificent furniture. The Kitchen is to die for, will all the dishes, appliances and the closet with an amazing choice of glass ware and dishes, just everything you could want or need. The view is priceless and the pontoon boat that was available for use and other canoes and paddle boats were such fun for all. The week went by so fast, wish we could have stayed longer. The owner Valerie an her staff that takes care of everything answered all our questions before we came and anything we wanted to know while we were there. We definately want to return for another family get together and spend some quality time in her amazing house! Thanks again for everything! Debbie and Family

We just love this house. It is very spacious with lots of extra spaces other than just the bedrooms. The kids (older kids) loved the movie room, game room and fire pit! S’mores are a must. My favorite is the huge wolf oven! And the walk to the water is very easy. We have a handicapped child that can make it up and down no problem!

We had a wonderful visit to this lake front property and do hope to return. Valerie and Andrea are very responsive and helpful.
The house is spacious with plenty of things to do and amenities- boat, swimming off dock, canoe, kayaks, pool table, theatre, near by great hikes and a well stocked kitchen, 2 fridges, 2 dishwashers, 2 washer and dryers, nice deck. We did enjoy the boat. Glad we did the additional rental.
The driveway is steep but not surprising given it is on a lake.
Master bedroom, kitchen, living space and deck are on the entry level which is nice if there is a member in the party that struggles with stairs. Otherwise walk to the dock involves stairs but short walk. We really enjoyed swimming off the dock. Water was warmer than expected.
Nearby Marion has good grocery store- Ingles and a Walmart superstore.
We took a day trip to Asheville, a little less than an hour away. Lots of nice restaurants and arts.

We have stayed at this home numerous times and it is by far the best home on the best lake with the best location. It is always an outstanding vacation for our two families to get together. Everything is as good or better than described in the property description. We look forward to next year at the same property.

The house was excellent. Plenty of space for all 5 adults and 4 kids to spread out and feel at home. The kitchen is huge and well-equipped—high end appliances, 2 dishwashers, lots of cooking utensils, food containers for leftovers, etc! The porch space and dock are also excellent, and swimming in the cove is so easy and quiet.
The optional boat rental went swimmingly, as well.
My 12 yo daughter loved the full-sized keyboard, which helped her piano withdrawal! My 9 yo daughter enjoyed swimming right out back and tubing all over Lake James. My wife really appreciated the private sunroom and chaise attached to the master suite.
There are beach and bath towels on site, but I kind of wish I had brought my own. Also, the living areas are pretty dark at night, even with all of the lights on.
All in all, it was an outstanding trip, and we would certainly return to Lakefront Retreat in the future!

Well-appointed, clean house with LOTS of room to spread out. We thoroughly enjoyed having the use of the pontoon boat and the many kayaks, paddleboards, and canoe. We went out on the lake every day. We had movie nights after dinner and a fire in the pit twice. The house is close to tennis courts in Marion, mountain biking trails at Lake James park, and waterfall hiking within an hour's drive. It was a restful but active vacation. Would definitely stay again.

We had a wonderful time at the lake house. The teenage boys loved the kayaks and swimming in the lake. The house was well stocked and very clean. The theater room was a big hit with the boys to play video games on and watch movies. Feeding 9 hungry people was easy with the huge table and professional stove. Clean up after eating was wonderful with 2 dishwashers!

The house is lovely and the slope to the water is short with a few easy steps to maneuver. It is quite doable for a agile senior citizen to walk on the dock and easily enter a pontoon boat with assistance. Everything you need is here and people can have their own privacy, when needed. The upper deck is where we mostly hung out and visited. If you have a young child in a portable crib, the master bedroom's closet can be "their room"--it's on the main floor at the end of the master bedroom closet. It's a perfect spot for an infant/toddler still in a portable crib. We hope to have another gathering at this home. Valerie was tremendous in communicating and we greatly appreciated it.
