Office staff were friendly and polite when they checked us in, there were clean sheets on our bed, the bathroom was clean, and the refrigerator and TV worked. Our room was very dimly lit.
The Karakahl is quite dilapidated--common areas appear neglected, with stained carpeting and no evidence of recent vacuuming. Dried leaves were noted on the carpeting throughout the building. The swimming pool is empty. Parts of the building are completely unlit. Murals are peeling off the walls, with the debris allowed to remain on the carpeting. A ladder was laid across the top of one stairwell to prevent people from using the stairwell. The only way to access the office is to exit the building and walk around to the office entrance. Only 1 of 2 vending machines contained any items--about 10 bags of chips and less than 20 candy bars. The game/exercise room appears unused, containing a video game machine that wasn't turned on, a pool table (with no cue sticks or balls visible), and 1 piece of exercise equipment; the hallway leading to that room was filled with old furniture in various states of disrepair. Signage indicating a breakfast room must have been left over from some previous point in history when there was actually such an amenity at the facility.
The building lost power during the night, leaving us in TOTAL darkness for about 1 hr. and 40 min. before power was restored. EXIT SIGNAGE WAS UNLIT!
We do not plan to stay at the Karakahl again!
