Find Miami Beach near the southern tip of Barbados. Like many other beaches in Barbados, it has multiple names. Some call it Enterprise Beach. If you’re staying nearby, be enterprising and take a barefoot morning run to enjoy the feel of the soft coral sand.
Miami Beach has plenty of calm waters, especially on its western end. Wade and swim, or explore the tide pools and look for young fish, sea roaches and ghost crabs. Local folk harvest the sea moss in these tide pools for a healthy drink, high in antioxidants.
For a bit more excitement, move eastward along the beach to experience the swell of the ocean. This part of the beach is very popular for visitors who want to try body, boogie or board surfing. Rent boogie boards as well as beach chairs and umbrellas from local vendors. Pay attention to the lifeguard signaling any hazards. If you’re an experienced surfer, this is where you’ll find some of the best surfing on the island when conditions are right. Avoid the cliff area of the beach, especially at high tide, since it can be very dangerous.
Walk to the South Point Lighthouse, built in 1852 to guide ships rounding the island on their route to and from South America. While it is not open to the public, the lighthouse is a very pretty spot to take photos. Another great place to walk to is Oistins fishing village where you can watch boats bringing in their catch.
Split your time between beach and golf course. Open to the public, the Barbados Golf Club is 4 miles (7 kilometers) from Miami Beach. Rent clubs and cart, and even take a lesson while enjoying 18 holes, generally with very good conditions and a bonus of scenic views.
For the best opportunity for privacy, visit Miami Beach during the week. Bring a picnic lunch or purchase local fishcakes and other snacks at a food truck.
Miami Beach is 7 miles (11 kilometers) south of Bridgetown. Take a taxi, bus or shuttle to the beach as parking may be limited.
