Rejuvenate your mind, body and soul by indulging in therapeutic treatments at Merano Thermal Baths (Terme Merano). Bathe in pools with temperatures that range from 64 to 97 F (18 to 37 C). Enjoy spa sessions and massages and find activities for children at this stylish complex. The thermal waters come from Monte San Vigilio, a mountain that rises above the south side of the town.
There is a total of 25 pools at the health resort, 15 of which are accessible year round inside a magnificent glass-walled, cube-shaped building. You’ll feel the therapeutic properties as soon as you set foot in the water. Atmospheric lighting and contemporary design elements create a peaceful setting. Gaze out of the windows to enjoy views of Ifinger mountain peak, Monte San Vigilio and Texelgruppe Nature Park.
In addition to the pools, take advantage of a caldarium, snow room, saunas, steam baths and whirlpool. There’s a free crèche, too, with supervision for children aged between 2 and 10. Children’s entertainment is available from June to August.
The 10 outdoor pools are dotted around a tree-lined park and are open from May to September. Among them is a pool for non-swimmers, a hydrotherapy pool and an underground steam bath. Waterfalls, geysers, a water lily pond and rose garden create a tranquil Mediterranean-style ambiance. Adding to the charm is a panoramic view of spectacular alpine countryside.
Stop by the health resort’s bistro café to fill up on light snacks and fresh pastas. Or simply sip a coffee while sitting on the outdoor terrace. In December, a Christmas tree, festive lights and ice-skating rink turn the adjacent Piazza Terme into a winter wonderland.
Located on the south bank of the Passer River, Merano Thermal Baths is a short walk from Merano Historic Center. Public buses stop close to the main entrance. Drivers can use the metered underground car park, which features artwork by seven regional artists. Admission fees are published on the attraction’s official website.
