First and foremost, the property is gorgeous and well-maintained. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the pool room, the front deck, and the charming ambience (when possible - see below).
We did have a few problems, however, which severely detracted from our overall enjoyment, primarily the water. Other reviews have mentioned the sulfur smell from the tap/shower head, but it was so much worse than we had envisioned. The smell would permeate the house any time we washed anything or used the (single, centrally located) bathroom. A shower was completely out of the question, though I attempted it and and ended up nauseated by the end, as the smell was so strong. Air fresheners helped somewhat, but it put a definite damper on the experience.
Secondly, while the property itself is truly peaceful and gorgeous, directly across the street is a very large cattle processing plant. We were treated to the sounds of heavy trucks and (on one occasion a claxon in the wee hours of the morning) fairly regularly, which disturbed the vibe for us as we tried to enjoy the front porch & lawn.
Finally, before we arrived, the pool apparently sprung a leak, which made it unusable. This was one of the primary features we had all been interested in trying out, so that was a disappointment. Of course, things happen, but it's worth mentioning.
Despite the above, I rate our stay as three stars because we had hours and hours of peaceful family time, the drive out there (from Virginia) was gorgeous, and the property was very well-maintained. Still, we would likely not return without some sort of solution regarding the odor of the water and an assurance that the pool had been fixed.
