Beachfront at Manistique

We really enjoyed the our stay in Manistique. Its central location on the eastern half of the Upper Peninsula allows for access to all the key sites one would want to see, such as Pictured Rocks, Tahquamenon Falls, as well as many parks for hiking. All of which we visited. The home has great lake views and a nice rustic feel which fits the woodsy Upper Peninsula.

My kids and I rented this home as a private getaway to get through the one year anniversary of my husbands death. It was the perfect place of serenity. The teenager found plenty to do and the little one and I loved walking the beach

Fall in Manistique

The property was awesome, house was very cozy. First time renting in the UP, very nice time. First time we had seen a sunrise, and sunset, very cool. It was also great to be able to park in the garage, avoiding the snow and frost. All in all, a very enjoyable stay.

Fall Get Away

We have been coming to the UP for the past four years, but this was our first time at North Shore retreat. We loved the location of the property and enjoyed beach walks and the trail on the property. The home was very clean and provided everything we needed. We loved the fireplace and sipping morning coffee in the sunroom. We are hoping to make a return trip late summer 2023 and would enjoy staying at North Shore retreat again

Peaceful Place

This is a very beautiful and peaceful place. The lake does change everyday and we seen a lot of different wildlife on the roads around this house. It is also a great location to travel from all across the U.P. From here we visited Tahquamenon Falls, Pictured Rocks, Mackinac Island, and all over the Hiawatha National Forrest. It is an older house but everything was clean and it was well stocked. Also it was very nice to have a fire on the beach on cool evenings.

Winter solitude, dog friendly and extras

The property has a great view of Lake MI and the home itself is well kept/clean. It was nice to have access to the garage especially due to the snow we had while there. A real benefit was not having to bring towels or linens including other amenities like hand soap, dish soap, TP, S&P etc. The only negative for us was the swallow you up style sofa. There is no other cushion/comfortable type seating around the telly.

Nice place depending on your needs

The location and home are lovely. The house isn’t new by any stretch, but it functions well. The beach was beautiful with a lovely fire pit. The master is actually a loft and the only other bedroom has a queen with bunkbeds all in the same room. This wasn’t an issue for us since it was just a couple spending our anniversary together. With a family that could be logistically challenging. The Internet is a DSL that is somewhat spotty.

Great location but heavy wear and tear

We loved our stay, the beach and the house were beautiful; However, needs some serious TLC. Screens were ripped in many areas and my husband had to fix the sliding screen doors to the deck as they were both off track and very hard to open/close. Also a few of the window mechanisms were broken or in very poor maintenance and one window ( in the sun room by door to deck)was actually pulled off the frame with a note on it that it was not working. My husband worked it back to be closed and locked and we left it alone after that. Downstairs toilet was very prone to overflowing and toilet handle actually broke off while we were there, so you have to take lid off tank and pull up lever to flush it. The carpet was very stained and full of sand on the main level - looks like it has out-lived it's life. Many of the towels were coming apart at the edges. The king sheets were also quite worn. With a little maintenance the place would be spectacular. Bathrooms and kitchen were clean, which is important to me :-) Even though the place was worn, we had a great time and spent a good part of our stay on the beach enjoying Lake Michigan.

Top of the Lake

Very nice secluded cabin, but still close to town if something is needed. There is one neighbor to the east and nobody in sight to the west since it's part of the property your staying at, 20 acres in all. Everything was clean and well ordered. The beach is all sand and very nice. Occasionally you can see lake freighters on the horizon coming and going. All in all, a very peaceful stay. Thank you.

Awesome stay

What’s beautiful home with incredible views of the lake. Set up perfectly for a family and even included a video game console. Beds were comfortable and there wasn’t a need or want that wasn’t supplied for. The fireplace was perfect on the snowy cold days. The communication with the hosts was A+++ they made sure that even the driveway was plowed. The town of Manistique looked like it had stepped out of a Hallmark movie and had wonderful small shops. Will return again

Wonderful get away

We enjoyed all the aspects of this wonderful lakeside getaway. Sandy beach, plenty of activities to keep young kids entertained, and a peaceful setting. Would book again.

Exceeded Expectations

Looking at the venue, how could it be better? But it was. First the negs… upstairs bed too soft mattress , and then MOSQUITOES! You’re in da UP hey, and in cedar bog so gotta expect.. but when yard grass is 2 feet? (Helps the blood suckers launch) FWVR resolved the issue by days end. The downstairs room is not handicap friendly…. Daughter had to negotiate the stairs to the shower, The chairs in nook well worn. The website underserves the site. Many items not shown- they have a crock pot and blender-we were gonna take. Took a heavy chaise… only to find several in the garage (pictures waay outdated) The owner has a penchant for organization: Tissues in every room, clearly marked locations, and sleep machine in bedroom, foot bath outside. Surely the owner spends time here as everything is here as in a home (pictures missing) TV system provides recording! Used. The Nook was used extensively. We brought our own bird feeders and the humming birds quickly arrive. The is expansive and provided non-stop waves sound and includes a waterfall!. The extra refrig was used and a bonus.

Beautiful Views

A very comfortable home with great views of Lake Michigan. Love the annexed sitting room to read while enjoying the sights and sounds. Broad lakeshore expanse with room to roam. Lots of local places to hike... but BEWARE of ticks! Great communication with management.

Wonderful location!

Beautiful home with everything you need for a relaxing vacation. The beach is wonderfully secluded and the woods are beautiful in fall. One of the best places we’ve been to. Just loved it.

Everything we hoped for!

We had an amazing experience at North Shore Retreat. The property was quiet, private, beautiful, and a great place to relax. The house was clean and well stocked with everything that anyone would need for cooking or enjoying the beach. The art supplies for painting rocks were a unique and creative touch. We would definitely stay here again!

Absolutely Perfect!

This property and house were absolutely perfect!! My husband, I, and our 2 boys loved our stay! Pulling up we were all in aw of the views! Anything we ever could have needed was at the house. The beds were comfy, the house was clean, plenty of linens. The beach was right out the back door, play toys, beach chairs, and a ping pong table in the garage we loved too! The whole wall of windows on the back side of the house left the most beautiful views from inside the house. The sunroom we didn’t really use but it’s a nice cozy spot to sit and listen to the sounds outside. The house wasn’t built in 2023, but that did not effect our stay in the least bit. There is a cute little town about 5-10 minutes away that had a lighthouse, boardwalk, and the best little ice cream spot that we hit a couple nights! I am so glad we picked this house! If we ever make it back up to the area I would 100% stay here again. I would recommend it to any friends or family. I am sure there is so much more I could say about our stay, My boys are still talking about our time up there and how awesome it was, and how many memories we made up there!! <3 Thank you for sharing your wonderful house with us!
