Big Spring Bed & Breakfast
Ranch style house on 300 acre farm where the Cowpasture river runs through it. Nestled beside a Big Spring. Farm is bordered on the east by the George Washington National Forest. Short walking distance to the Shaw's Ridge Trail.Short driving distance to Shenandoah mountain and the Confederate breastworks. A few miles from historical McDowell and Monterey,Highland County,Virginia. Enjoyed out door activities such as fishing hunting hiking biking kayaking in the area.

Mountain House
The manager was super nice, couldn't have met a better man. It was a beautiful area, the view was absolutely stunning, extremely quiet, the house was in excellent condition, we had all of the amenities we needed to make it a much more relaxing stay. Just AMAZING!
We had a wonderful stay at this property! The house was very clean, in great location and had everything needed for the perfect stay in this beautiful area. The owners quickly responded to any questions we had and were a pleasure to deal with. Will definitely stay here again!

Perfect
Property was very clean, spacious, and had all the amenities we could need! Clean towels and bedding, snacks, some beef from the farm, and lots of room to roam. Host was very communicative and gracious! Plenty of firewood for the firepit, propane grill (that actually had propane in the bottle), chairs for the fire, they really had everything covered. Will definitely be staying again!

A group of friends stayed at Big Springs B&B for a weekend trip to Highland County. The house was exactly as described, clean, and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare a meal and we appreciated the farm-raised beef in the freezer. The setting is beautiful. We enjoyed hearing the whippoorwills at dusk and seeing the milky way at night.

We had a really nice weekend stay. The place was lovely and clean, the location was beautiful, and the owners were very responsive. And the beef in the freezer was a really nice treat!

So Cute!
My husband and I spent a weekend here celebrating our anniversary and had a great time. Check in was seamless and communication from Durwood was great. There’s no cell service in the area, but the house does have WiFi that is easy to connect to if needed, so this was a great excuse to unplug. There’s a backyard with a good bit of space for your pup to play as well. We will definitely stay here again if we’re in the area.

Big Spring B & B-a great get away spot
We loved the spacious house and the way it was laid out. Nice touches throughout the house. The beds were the most comfortable we have ever slept on away from home. We enjoyed meeting the owners and talking with them. Will definitely be back!!!

Peace like I had not experience in a long time. The town and people of Monterey were very welcoming. Fun fact- Elisabeth Kubler-Ross had a nearby retreat center back in the day.

Great 2 Night Stay
Great rental for our 2 night stay. Everything was easy from reservation to check in. House had lots of kitchenware and linens. I forgot to bring my tea bags and found a whole box at the rental! Loved the ground beef and eggs that where left for us to enjoy.

Family Getaway
Very comfortable and welcoming home a-way from home - lots of "extras" available stocked in the pantry. The Farm fresh eggs were a special treat! The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and the large living room and kitchen space was great! The only drawback occurred our last night - when we had an invasion of flying bugs come in through the AC units. The area itself is delightful!

Such caring hosts!
Durwood and Teresa communicated promptly and thoroughly, making sure we had all house info as well as local recommendations and better directions than GPS. It was a perfect place to get away with friends between our two cities, in a home prepared with such care and hospitality. We sat around the fire pit in the crisp evening breeze, taking in the gorgeous Virginia views and skies. We enjoyed the fresh eggs and grass-fed beef - delightful surprises that made all of us feel so cared for during our stay. Thank you so much, Durwood and Teresa!

Beautiful Getaway
Stayed hear over two night at the end of trip. It’s a very comfortable place with nice views front and back and plenty of room for a small group of friends and family. It’s also conveniently near some great hiking spots in the GW National Forrest. The kitchen had everything I needed. Durwood was responsive and easy to communicate with and he gave me all the info I needed for my stay. Recommended!!!

a home away from home
A lovely modern house with all the facilities you couldwant and 3 good size double bedrooms. The location was very peaceful and the cows were charming. We would recomend it whole heartedly to anyone who might be considering it.

Enjoy the peace and quiet
My husband and I along with our two dogs enjoyed our stay at Big Spring. The home is very spacious and it was immaculate. We were looking for a place to unwind. There is no cell phone service so it makes it easy to cut out the noise and relax. The night sky is incredible. You feel like you are at a planetarium.
The house had everything that we needed. There are board games and a record player and a nice selection of books. There is also a gas grill outside which was very convenient. It was very easy to down shift and relax. Would love to visit again.
