- The secret to having a pain-free flight experience is to pack in advance. Start with the essentials: passport, official ID, credit cards and important medications. Next, bring on board items that’ll help keep you busy, like some electronic devices or a thrilling novel. It’s also a wise idea to bring your chargers, a comfy neck pillow and a pair of earplugs. And of course, be sure to pop in toiletry items like a toothbrush, lip balm and a clean set of clothes.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Put all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner in your checked luggage. Any liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated by security. Sharp or pointed objects, like your pocket knife, and dangerous products which are explosive or flammable, such as aerosol cans, spray paint and gasoline, are also not allowed.
What to wear on a flight:
- The key to a comfortable flight is often as simple as your choice in clothes. Prepare for changes in temperature by layering up. This will keep you nice and warm if the cabin gets chilly. Shoes like stilettos, flip flops and lace-up boots are best left in your suitcase. Even though they may be your favorites, go for flat, closed-toed footwear like slip-ons. Your feet will thank you later.
- Most of us have heard about DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clot condition caused by reduced mobility or inactivity. There’s lots you can do to mitigate your risk. Wear a pair of compression socks, drink plenty of water and move your legs and feet. Do a lap or two of the cabin or perform some stretches in your seat.
