Diane and her husband Jeff were extremely hospitable to us when we stayed at their VRBO, the Chickadee! There was a bad storm the day we got in, so we were nervous about getting to the cabin and Diane had reached out to warn us about the weather and keep in touch day-of. We rented a pickup truck with 4WD, which we would definitely recommend doing because it was very helpful for driving in the snow. We slid a little bit on our way up the road to the cabin and reversed down the road a bit, and Diane and Jeff just happened to be coming in at the same time. Jeff drove our truck up to the cabin for us and for that we are forever indebted to him. It was easy after watching him do it once.
Dumont isn't a huge town, but it has a ski rental place (with a coffee shop inside) and a gas station; what more could you really ask for? Our hosts also recommended trying Tommyknocker Brewery in Idaho Springs (next town over, has a safeway grocery store and some tourist attractions) and it was delicious! We skied at Winter Park and it was a beautiful drive to get there.
Our hosts were willing to do whatever they could to make our stay enjoyable! The bed was comfortable, the place looked exactly like the photos, and there was a great DVD selection. We also were glad for the laundry machines so we could return home with clean clothes! 5/5 experience, would recommend to anyone!!!
