Our stay at this delightful property was everything that we could have hoped for and more
We have just returned from a week stay in Snowdonia at this cottage with our two children aged 7 & 9. We were absolutely thrilled with the weather which was sunny all week, only raining once overnight. The views, serenity and location were the key factors that we enjoyed most about our holiday at Hawdamorr. We couldn't fault the facilities and the hospitality of our hosts, Paul, Jen, Solwyn and Scooby. Our children had a delightful time playing with Solwyn and Scooby was one of the friendliest pooches we've met. We found it ever so handy to have the bicycle trail to Barmouth within such close reach, just across the toll bridge at the end of the road. We made good use of this, taking turns to venture out early and catch the estuary coming to life, occasionally with a mystic low lying mist and at other times, warm sunshine with birdlife aplenty. The two walks we ventured on were relatively short due to little legs. The Torrent walk, out of Dolgellau, along a river with untouched beauty. The other was the New Precipe Walk, offering unrivalled views of the estuary, we recommend taking a picnic as there is a table up top to stop and enjoy the view with a hot flask of tea. We treated the kids to Bounce Below at Zip World, it was pricey but a most memorable experience. An incredibly energetic time spent laughing, bouncing and sliding, a great one for the whole family! Portmeiron was a delight, a characterful Italianate village on an estuary with captivating Ornamental gardens as well as exploratory beach walks, Cafe Glas served scrumptious food. Fairhaven beach was a chilled and relaxing day with far-stretching white sands and pebbles for the kids to play. The George 3rd pub was our favourite stop for evening meals, stumbling distance from the cottage, breathtaking sunsets and watching the ducks and wildlife with a beer. They do very tasty food with a varied selection, we didn't run out of choice and the kids thoroughly enjoyed it too. In Barmouth, we favoured the Lobster Pot for sitting and watching the water and the hills whilst being served basic but tasty fayre, (an egg and bacon sarnie after the mornings bike ride). We are itching to return to the area and miss the views from the cottage already. It was cosy, warm, well appointed and in a perfect location to access the surrounding areas. Thank you for accommodating us Jen, Paul and Solwyn, we can't recommend this beauty highly enough. Becky & Martin Hertfordshire 1st-8th April 2017

Lovely place for a break
After lots of searching found this cottage which looked perfect for us. This property is in a very quiet rural location with plenty of good walks from the doorstep and amenities a short drive away. The cottage comes fully equipped with everything you need and the hot tub is an absolute bonus. The kitchen is generously sized and modern, the lounge cosy and rustic. We found the bedrooms a little basic but the bathroom nicely finished and the shower powerful and warm. Only thing letting this place down is the carpets and sofa starting to look a little tired and, for our stay at least, the downstairs cleaning could be a little more thorough! (Not overlooking the fact the property is let as a pet friendly rental!) Had a lovely three days at the cottage and thoroughly enjoyed a restful break

Even better second time around
We stayed here last summer and enjoyed our stay so much, we booked again for the 2021 summer and enjoyed it even more this time. The hot tub is a great addition to the property and the new wardrobes are welcome and the rest of the cottage is as well appointed, cosy and easy to use as before. We did some of the same things as last time (crabbing in Barmouth, the New Precipice Walk for incredible views of the Mawddach Estuary and biking in Coed y Brenin) and some new things (canoeing on Lake Bala, Bwlchgwyn Farm Pony Trekking and Black Waterfall walk) and there is still so much to do! One further improvement would be some kind of washing line to help with drying clothes/swimming trucks/towels - airer provided we found was too small. Also would be good to be able to book the glamping pod on site at the same time for family gatherings. We'll be back!

Cosy cottage in an idyllic location
Homely cottage in an outstanding location. So peaceful with beautiful views over the mountains and estuary. Close to beaches, mountains and plenty of places to visit, could have done with 2 weeks. Highlights were climbing Cadair Idris, and Fforest Zipworld. Would advise booking everything in advance, struggled to get any dinner reservations and many activities fully booked until September. A fabulous week, none of us wanted to leave, will definitely be back

Fantastic place to stay
My husband, daughter and I stayed for two weeks in this cottage and had a great time. The location is just wonderful - tucked in a small, forested valley, beautifully quiet apart from the sound of the stream - and with the incredible Cadair Idris vista directly opposite. We could walk directly from the cottage - and cross the estuary for food/drink, which we did several times during our stay. We also enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub in the evenings. In terms of the location generally, it’s easy to get to the coast (Barmouth being closest and a nice little town), explore Snowdonia, visit lots of castles, Portmeirion and more. There are activities for children - we did kayaking on Bala Lake and zip-wiring near Betws y Coed. Two warnings for the cottage - firstly, go steady up the road to it, the passing places are not always where you’d wish they were (though it was actually always fine!)! And, secondly, we are *tall* - we banged heads, shoulders and elbows until we’d got used to a traditional Welsh cottage!! Final thing - in case you misunderstand the perfectly clear instruction as we did(!) - the parking _is_ round the back of the cottage, but accessed via the drive in front (we continued on the road round the back and then had to turn back!).

Amazing location
We loved the location the fact you could walk out of the door and up towards the hills or down towards the estuary and the flat walk either side of the toll bridge. Other walking areas were just a short drive away The cottage had everything we needed as a family of 3 plus small dog.I had to remind myself that it was a very old building with low doorways! We had to leave one night early due to Welsh lockdown but would be happy to return

Lovely quiet location
Lovely quiet location to escape from Covid. We were a family of 5 (kids 5, 4 and 1) and we really enjoyed local wooded walks and walk to the pub for a drink. The house was very well equipped and clean. Lovely area with lots to do. We had a great day out at Barmouth beech and walks around area. The boys loved the dragon quest at craft centre. The highlight of the holiday for them. The bedrooms were small and double beds small And short. It was hard to sleep with two adults in them. Overall we really enjoyed our stay

A gem of a place
This is a lovely characterful cottage that made a great base for exploring the local area. The cottage is well appointed and whilst small in some areas (low doorways, bedrooms with double beds in them quite tight), it has enough space in crucial areas like the bathroom, kitchen, dining room and lounge to make the stay very comfortable. The area is fantastic, with views of Cadair Idris from the property, the New Precipice Walk can be accessed from the front door and the excellent George III pub is a 20 min walk away across the toll bridge (30p per person if you are on foot). The Mawddach Valley is beautiful and cycling the trail from Dolgellau to Barmouth was a highlight of our stay. Recommended.

Great post Xmas break with the kids
This is a lovely little cottage in a beautiful location which we found so relaxing. Loads of toys and games to keep the kids happy, DVDs for cosY nights and a safe garden for the dogs. We had a lovely time and will definitely come back when it’s warmer and maybe drier! Stunning views that really helped recharge after a hectic Christmas. Good central location for the park and various places it offers. We were very comfortable.

Just Perfect
Couldn’t fault the cottage or location. Simply stunning. Amazing views and location. Walks straight out of the door to the famous bridge, and pub. Or up the hill to the Precipice Walk. Short drive to Barmouth or Dolgellau, and so many other great places like Cregennen Lakes. Cottage super cosy with all amenities you need. Am sure we will return.

Homely cottage with lovely views.
The cottage was smaller than expected but nice enough. Great kitchen area with everything we needed. Really liked the dining area with the great views. Well stocked with toys for the kids too. There is a lovely walk going up past the cottage. However, the road is quite steep and narrow driving up to it. My 5 year old son (who is usually scared of dogs) absolutely fell in love with the owners Spaniel dog ..Scooby! Quite possibly the friendliest and sweetest dog ever! Good location for the Cader Idris climb...we did it in about 3 hours..spectacular! One negative point - quite irritating to have to pay 70p every time we crossed the nearby toll bridge both ways to get to Dolgellau! Barmouth (toll free!) and Fairbourne were well worth the visits. Llanfair Slate Caverns was really interesting (if you read all the info) and the scenery en route was lovely. It is such a gorgeous area with so much potential for numerous walks and places to visit, I could quite easily have stayed another week at Hawddamor!
