I had to call VRBO to get check-in information when host didn’t respond to numerous messages.
Host said she was working on fixing two upstairs toilet clogs and would call the next morning (day of check-in) to let me know if house would be available. She called shortly after 9 am to say all was clear, and the toilets were working properly. She said the kids of the previous renters flushed paper towels.
My cousin arrived first and FaceTimed me to show me how dirty the house was and sent me pictures. She was leaving for a while, so I messaged the host to say that in her rush to fix the toilets, she may not have noticed the house didn’t get cleaned and asked if she could have it tidied up while my cousin was out. An hour later, I got a notification that my reservation was canceled and a refund would follow in about 14 days. When I messaged her to ask why, thinking she clicked something by accident, she said “the house was still leaking.” I was left to scramble to find a house that could accommodate seven adults coming in for a funeral!
I specifically had my cousin flush each of the upstairs toilets to confirm they worked. So that was not the issue. And I was very understanding that she was in panic mode about the toilets and could very well not have noticed that the house didn’t get cleaned. But her response was unacceptable.
