So I hate to do this, because I think this review is less about property ownership, and more about the property management. But you need to be aware that although you’re booking through Vrbo, you’ll be expected to download a completely different app to receive any pertinent info about your stay. Let’s start from the beginning:
First, we arrived after 9pm, complete pitch black darkness (don’t get me wrong- we wanted this remote location and had seen it on another trip)- but there are no lights lighting the path to unload a vehicle in pitch black darkness. My mother in law, who has limited mobility, had a hard time navigating the dark uneven walkways. Inside, we were a little blown away by the lack of care taken to repairs, paint, updates, etc. Look, I can live with a clean, yet outdated couch- but this place has leak marks, scuffs, paint issues, overall “look” of being unkept and uncared for. I understand this is a family home, and from the looks of it, they haven’t been there to visit in a very long time. The home is desperately in need of cosmetic repairs- peeling paint in basement, brown marks all over ceilings from leaks, and just overall outdated appearance and the look of neglect.
Other things that need attention: WIFI- none of the info was accurate, and when we finally played around with the different networks (a different one than listed in home) we had virtually NO service. Traveling with someone working on the road was a complete NO GO. Additionally, we had so little service that had the property manager from Vacasa not called me about checking the basement for flooding, we wouldn’t have had any info about checking out or where to take garbage, etc. (News flash- it’s to the Vacasa office in Helen, Ga!).
There are no booklets inside the home stating any of this. Just download an app that you won’t have enough service to download on site.
As for the positive aspects: LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!! this cabin sits directly on Wildcat Creek, a trout-fed stream about 2 mi off of Lake Burton. It is absolutely breathtaking scenery. On top of that, you’re a quick 15 min walk (or short drive) from the famous sliding rock in the creek. It’s absolutely beautiful, we caught several trout, and had a wonderful family experience (once we accepted that the place was somewhat clean- just badly appointed)… will go back, but not with extended family who have more needs than this house can provide. My advice: go! But be aware. And don’t overpay.
