BE AWARE when booking The Lodge Alley Inn through VRBO.
Although a great location in Charleston, you need to know it is a timeshare. Over two months in advance, my wife and I paid and received a confirmation (VRBO ID 36206515) for a five-day/four night stay. However, the day before our trip we were informed our confirmation had changed to only three nights. So, I spent that day talking to, being transferred to, or in most cases trying to contact the following parties:
1.) VRBO; received case number 35626260. Recommended we show up and work issue once at the front desk in Charleston (on vacation).
2.) Bluegreen Vacations Customer Service (managing timeshare company); #YNMLM, but no resolution,
3.) Resort Rental Pros (timeshare company); said the property “can’t be rented”.
4.) Lodge Alley Inn Front Desk (also Bluegreen Vacations); “voicemail is full”
5.) Owner; I was not able to contact owner, and he/she made no attempt to contact me.
After a full day I was able to contact VRBO Traveler Care. I received a new case number 35627094; but, VRBO did not contact me with an update before we started our trip.
The night we checked in the front desk confirmed a three-night stay; and, they were working on our last night. It was day three of our stay when the front desk assigned us a room for our original confirmed last night. The room was an upgrade to a one-bedroom unit with kitchen, from our studio unit. Although we are grateful to the front desk for the room, we couldn’t simply move from one room to another. We had to get up well before our scheduled event to re-pack, then store our luggage at the front desk, then return that afternoon and unpack into our new room for the last night of our vacation.
Throughout this process, I initiated every contact with VRBO. Despite case numbers and time to work this issue (two months before we traveled as well as our first three days of vacation) VRBO did very little if anything to resolve this problem. I was hoping to hear from VRBO before I submitted this review. However, almost a month later, I have not heard from any of the five parties listed previously.
Finally, we met another couple with a similar problem as we checked out at the front desk. We watched and listened as reservation services and front desk, once again, blamed each other. There are limited options downtown, especially during large events. This should be only a very last resort. Sincerely, Steve
