This family-friendly Alpine ski resort offers characterful mountain villages and a variety of skiable terrain, including plenty of woodland runs.

Chantemerle is one of the larger villages in the Serre Chevalier ski resort, which covers a vast area of more than 9,630 acres (3,900 hectares). Discover more than 150 miles (250 kilometers) of slopes to suit skiers and snowboarders of all levels, ranging from timid beginners to experienced thrill-seekers.

Together with le Monetier les Bains and Villeneuve, Chantemerle is one of the three main villages within the Serre Chevalier area. From Chantemerle, enjoy direct access to the slopes without having to catch a bus.

Consult the ski resort map, and ride gondolas or chairlifts to reach the ski runs of your choice. Choose between 16 black runs, 44 intermediate-level reds, 31 gentle blues, and 24 greens, which are ideal territory for beginners and nervous skiers.

Navigate your way down tree runs. The ski line in Serre Chevalier extends to a height of more than 9,285 feet (2,830 meters), significantly higher than in many other resorts. Because of the protection afforded by the trees, the snow on the slopes here tends to be better preserved even during poor skiing weather.

Alternatively, visit Serre Chevalier’s SnowPark in Villeneuve, a dedicated freestyle area. Work on your jumps and freestyle tricks within the park, which is separated into runs for beginners, intermediates and advanced. For something slower-paced, try following cross-country ski routes through larch forests.

If you don’t fancy hitting the slopes, Chantemerle does offer some alternative diversions. Rent snow scooters, go ice skating or check out the après-ski scene in the town’s bars. Be warned, however, Chantemerle is a relatively quiet resort, so you’ll find it’s more about snow sports and relaxation here than partying.

Find Chantemerle Serre Chevalier Ski Resort between Briancon and Villeneuve, just east of the Écrins NationalPark, near France’s border with Italy. The resort is about 68 miles (110 kilometers) west of Turin. Use local ski bus services to travel between the many villages and lifts of the Serre Chevalier Ski Resort.
