Beautiful, romantic and recently restored detached stone cottage, situated in extensive gardens bordering a stream.
The house is cosy, and perfect for two with a galleried bedroom, although there is a further single bedroom too reached via the main bedroom. This single room then leads to the shower room. There is a log fire, terracotta tiled floors, and beamed ceilings throughout. There is also a sofabed downstairs. WIFI .
Possibility to hire SKY package at E25 per week - movies, sports, children's etc. If required, please order on booking to secure. (Please note due to Sky regulations, the SKY package offered is the Italian Sky but the language to sports and movies and many programmes can be changed to English using the remote control).
The kitchen is fully equipped and has a real country feel. Outside, there is a large 500 sq metre garden bordering a trout stream, which is an ideal fishing/swimming spot for both adults and children, an eating terrace with wonderful views, and a BBQ. The Mill boasts a private pool of 9m x 4.5m
A truly rural location but less than 2 km from the nearest village, and 6 km from market town of Castelnuovo with its famous Thursday morning markets. Perfect walking & touring base - Lucca 1 hr; Barga 20 min.; Florence 1 2/4 hr.; coast 1 hr.


The area: A perfect opportunity to explore the real Italy, and holiday away from the madding crowds of popular Tuscany. The area is totally unspoilt and non commercialised, and benefits from fantastic scenery all year round.
Fishing in the area is excellent, or why not swim in the rivers, picnic in the mountain air, watch the local past tomes of bocce and cheese throwing for which the area is famous?
Touring the hundreds of hill top villages where time has stood still, is also a wonderfully relaxing way to pass the day, topped by a glass of wine on the terrace, admiring the views in the evening.
For a townie, day, then Lucca, Pisa, Florence and Barga are not far away, and Castelnuovo with its many restaurants bars, outdoor swimming pool, station and famous market is only a 10 minute drive.

Cuisine: The Garfagnanan cuisine is quite simple, but extremely tasty, with most dishes prepared from the freshest of local ingredients.
Eating out is cheap, since restaurants tend to cater for the locals, and you can easily find a 3 course lunch with local wine, cheeses, and coffee for around E10
Children are very welcome in restaurants...
The only restriction you will find is a lack of menu in some restaurants, but the locals will do their best with sign language!

Als wir die Unterkunft vor Ort gesehen haben waren wir echt sprachlos. Das es noch schöner ist als die Bilder haben wir noch nie erlebt. So ein tolles Haus mit dem liebevoll angelegten Garten. Die Einrichtung so geschmackvoll und wunderschön. Man hat sich gleich wie zu Hause gefühlt. Wir haben diese Ruhe und die wundervolle Natur sehr genossen. Volle Entschleunigung! Der Vermieter Fabio was für ein toller Mensch. So was von nett und umsorgte einen,lies keine Wünsche offen. Vielen lieben Dank dafür. Es war einfach fantastisch.

A great week
The Mill is a meticulously clean, superbly equipped little old stone house in the hills near Campogiano. The house has been beautifully renovated - lovely stone sink, comfortable bathroom, great outdoor areas, nice pool, benches, two outdoor tables to eat at. We grew quite attached to the house and were sad to leave. Communication with Fabio was excellent. He stopped by to say hello - beyond the call of his duty - and answer our questions. He was always responsive and courteous. Overall, a terrific time.

Das Haus samt Pool sind wunderbar! Der Weg dahin war zunächst schwer zu finden aber mithilfe eines Videos per WhatsApp vom Verwalter Fabio hat es dann leicht geklappt. Der Kontakt zum Verwalter war jederzeit leicht, hilfsbereit und sehr nett! Nach einer Woche bekamen wir frische Wäsche und Handtücher zur Verfügung gestellt. Die alte Mühle ist super ausgestattet. Es steht reichlich verschiedenstes Geschirr zur Verfügung. Das Gebäude selber war durch die Steinmauern tagsüber schön kühl und abends angenehm warm (wenn es nachts schon kühler wurde - September). Vor jedem Fenster sind Fliegengitter, so dass man nachts zum Lüften auch mal Fenster auflassen kann! Der Pool war traumhaft und auch der Grill hat hervorragend funktioniert. Eine schöne Wiese rundherum. Man ist sehr alleine dort - das muss einem klar sein. Man ist schon auf ein Auto angewiesen. Aber wir liebten diese Einsamkeit! Insgesamt hatten wir wunderbare 12 Nächte!

Ich kann das Ferienhaus für alle, die gerne Aktivurlaub unternehmen, nur empfehlen. Wir waren zu viert und haben die schöne, sehr bergige Gegend sehr genossen. Falls man allerdings Meerurlaub machen möchte muss man mit 2h Fahrzeit rechnen.

Großartiges Haus in der Toskana - traumhafter und unvergesslicher Urlaub
Wir waren mit 4 Personen in dem Haus (2 Kinder). Die Lage des Hauses ist wunderbar. Kein Massentourismus, sondern hier ist man richtig, wenn man Ruhe sucht. Nur 2 Minuten zu Fuß zum Fluß mit einer super Badestelle und Angelmöglichkeiten (Forellen). Das Haus ist typisch toskanisch, dank dicker Mauern auch im August nachts angenehm kühl. Toller privater Pool (9 x 4,50 und 1,20 tief). Es ist alles liebevoll eingerichtet und so wie in der Anzeige beschrieben. Die Küchenausstattung ist prima. Es wurde wirklich an alles gedacht. Der nächste Supermarkt mit ausreichend Auswahl ist 10 Minuten per Auto entfernt in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. Das ist der nächstgelegene größere Ort. Besonders hervorheben müssen wir wirklich die Vermieter. Fabio und Elisa sind unglaublich hilfsbereit. Als wir ankamen, wurden wir von einem Willkommensgeschenk begrüßt. Fabio hatte für unseren Sohn sogar schon im Vorfeld eine Angelerlaubnis besorgt. Leider hatten wir einen Autodefekt bei der Anreise. Fabio hat uns nicht nur einen Werkstatttermin besorgt, sondern uns sogar gefahren und uns in den Tagen, als wir kein Auto hatten und nicht einkaufen konnten immer wieder Hilfe angeboten und uns Brot besorgt und Obst aus seinem Garten vorbei gebracht. Wir machen immer Urlaub in Ferienhäusern und haben daher viel Erfahrung - und wir hatten bisher noch nie einen so fürsorglichen Vermieter. Ganz großes Dankeschön! Das hat den Urlaub noch abgerundet. Absolut empfehlenswert!!! Fam. Reich aus Berlin

Sehr idyllisches und top gepflegtes Ferienhaus.

Natura e relax
Siamo molto contenti della vacanza appena terminata e ringraziamo Fabio per la gentilezza e la costante disponibilità e professionalità. Un luogo tranquillo, quasi fuori dal tempo, dove ci si sveglia con il canto del gallo e il rumore del fiume. Si possono fare passeggiate immersi nella natura, visitare luoghi molti suggestivi a pochi chilometri di distanza, come la Grotta del vento, il Lago di Vagli e piccoli borghi. Ci si può tuffare nella grande piscina e prendere il sole indisturbati da mattina a sera, pranzando e cenando in giardino, in assoluto relax! Consigliamo assolutamente di andare!

Sehr schöne Unterkunft, innen wie außen. Es war alles da, was man so braucht. Inklusive einem kleinen Begrüßungsgeschenk. Der Eigentümer war freundlich und jederzeit erreichbar bei Fragen. Die Kommunikation über Whatsapp App schnell und problemlos. Sogar frische Himbeeren hat er uns gebracht. Die Umgebung ist, besonders für Wanderungen gut geeignet. Die Lage des Häuschens ist etwas abgeschieden, was jedoch in der Beschreibung steht. Das muss man mögen. Der nächste Supermarkt ist ca10min Autofahrt entfernt und auch sonst ist man aufs Auto o.ä. angewiesen, wenn man etwas erleben möchte. Empfehlenswert sind auf jeden Fall: Pisa, Lucca u Florenz ebenso wie der Naturpark Orecchiella und der Archeopark Verrucole. Die Menschen waren überall durchweg freundlich und hilfsbereit.

Idyllic and private setting
The Mill is located at the bottom of an unmade road, which at first is a bit daunting, but once familiar with, provides an idyllic and private setting to relax and enjoy the surrounding Tuscan countryside. Everything you will need is provided at The Villa and the pool and gardens are wonderful on a sunny day. The only issue we had was having to drive everywhere. It's a good 2 hours from Pisa airport and 15/20 minutes drive to a small range of restaurants nearby. The roads are narrow and great care is needed. In summary you couldn't ask for a more pretty and secluded spot with a river running down the foot of the property. However, make good use of the BBQ, to avoid the evening drives to remote restaurants.

Beautiful location, perfect getaway
Lovely location next to crystal clear river for daily dip and jumping from rocks. Cosy house was well equipped and we were well looked after by Fabio. So much to do in and around the house, lots of historical towns and villages to visit and overall you can find local places to eat with fantastic food. Given the mountainous terrain there are lots of outdoor activities to suit more the adventurous ones.

Great Villa
This villa is in a great location, with easy access by train or car to Lucca, Pisa and Florence. The villa had everything we needed to have a wonderful holiday which we did. It is one of the few Villas we have stayed that we would like to come back to. The directions we're very good making it easy to find. Would definitely recommend this villa to family and friends.

Sehr schönes Ferienhaus!
Das Ferienhaus liegt sehr schön und ruhig an einem Flussbett, es ist ein wunderschönes Cottage mit tollem Pool. Für Ausflüge muss man meist erst ein Stück mit dem Auto fahren, aber auch das ist machbar. Die Vermieter waren sehr freundlich! Auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert.

Ort zum Entspannen
Wir haben einen sehr angenehmen Aufenthalt in der restaurierten Mühle genossen. Das Haus und Grundstück sind sehr gepflegt und bieten viele Möglichkeiten zum Entspannen (für Kinder und Erwachsene). Neben dem sehr gepflegten Pool ist eine kleiner Fluss zum Erfrischen in der Nähe (fußläufig). Der Kontakt zum Besitzer (Fabio) hat sich sehr gut gestaltet. Er war sehr zuvorkommend, freundlich und hat damit zu dem angenehmen Aufenthalt beigetragen. Zusätzlich hat er uns mit kleinen Aufmerksamkeiten aus seinem Garten (frisches Gemüse, Obst) überrascht. Das Haus und der Ort sind sehr empfehlenswert.

Génial pour des vacances nature
Petit moulin ancien parfaitement renové et équipé. Propreté irréprochable. 5 couchages max. Au bord d'une magnifique rivière aux eaux claires adorée par les enfants. Baignade idéale en été. Pas trop de monde. Eaux propres (même si un ruisseau affluent mériterait d'être nettoyé). Le moulin n'est pas si isolé que ça, deux autres maisons voisines mais non mitoyennes. Accueil gentil du propriétaire, avec des fleurs, du pain frais et du vin. Une super épicerie à moins de 10 minutes en voiture (Camporgiano) avec plein de bons produits et petits plats préparés maison. Région authentique sans tourisme de masse. Localisation idéale pour des vacances reposantes, mais pas pour se dire qu'on va rayonner et visiter toute la Toscane (petites routes de montagne). La petite piscine est un plus, mais petite, peu profonde, et semble fragile. De toute façon les enfants préféraient aller sauter à la rivière. Au final un petit coin de paradis pour une famille avec enfants.

Wonderful and relaxed stay
We stayed at the house for 11 days and loved everything about it. The house was clean and was equipped with everything one possibly could need. The garden was fantastic, and the pool was just the right size and depth (130 cm) for both us and the kids (8 and 6 years old) to enjoy. 20 meters from the house was the riverbed where we also could take a swim, although the water was much colder. Fabio and his wife Elise were lovely, friendly and very helpful. The last evening they invited us to their own home for home made Italian pizza, which was delicious and so appreciated. We would love to return some day, and we can really recommend this house to others.Thanks again Fabio and Elise!

Excellent holiday
We really enjoyed the 4 days spent in the restored mill. The location is approximately 1.5hrs north of Pisa and 1hr away from Lucca, both can easily reached via road or a train that can be caught nearby. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants to eat in the nearby town and a supermarket. The property caters very well for its visitors and the owner has clearly put a lot of thought into what is required for its guests, including cooking utensils, condiments, towels, you just literally have to turn up with your clothes and a tooth brush. I would highly recommend this villa, although to use of a car to reach it is essential, but you shall get to see parts of Italy others do not see.
