The home was as beautiful as it was in the pictures. The 10 to 15 minute drive into the little town of Black Mountain was spot on. The town was very lovely and would definitely go back to visit again. The local grocery store was huge and had everything possible you might need. As for the home, I would not rent again and here is why:
First , I was charged a fee by the management company and a fee by VRBO. I was told I booked under Yonder but if I had only booked through VRBO I would not have had both sets of fees. It was an additional $400.
Second, when we arrived, there was no ice., even though they had three ice machines. The management company rudely told me that they throw away ice from the previous people but that I could drive back to town and buy ice until the ice machines started working. After driving from Texas for two days, I didn’t really feel like getting in the car and driving back to town to buy ice. Only one ice machine started working but with 9 people there, ice goes quickly. We asked them to send someone out to fix the stand alone ice machine in kitchen, but they never did. They said they would reimburse me for the ice for the week, but they haven’t. It’s not the costs of the ice as it was the way the management company responded to me.
Next, the tables on back porch need to be replaced. They are wobbly and table top is caving in. The couch and chair set were comfy though.
Lastly and the biggest issue was the AC. One of the bedrooms was on the ground floor. Each night my son and daughter-in-law didn’t sleep well because it was too hot. They could not open windows as they were on the ground floor. The air could not be adjusted because they said the units would freeze up. After a few nights, they could not stand the heat any more so they moved to the couch upstairs. It was a bit better but still warm. The master upstairs was ok if you ran the fan on high. The other bedrooms were ok but none was great. No windows could be open because there were no screens. (After opening them the first night, we woke to lots of bugs that had made there way in). When we called the management company, they sent someone out and said everything was perfectly fine. Funny though, that night their room downstairs was cool for the first time but the rest of the house became warm, even the master with the fan on high. The AC issue definitely needs to be addressed. It’s hard to spend a week in a house that doesn’t cool off.
