We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this unique property for the week leading up to our son's graduation. There were three of us plus a dog for most of the week, plus an additional family member for the last two nights. We were able to fit a large dog crate next to the stairs and our dog loved the yard. Be aware that there are bears (we saw two adults a few hundred yards down the road), so keep your dog on a leash at night and don't let them out of the yard unleashed. The house is very new and in great shape. The staircase between levels is very steep and not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Since it was spring, the outdoor shower was not set up and we all used the one indoor shower, which is upstairs. My son loved the bunk house and sauna. Anyone who stays in the bunkhouse has to come inside or use a tree, which was fine, might not be for everyone. The spring flowers and bird song were gorgeous, I had a lot of fun with my Merlin app (Barred Owls, Red-eyed vireos, wood thrush, ovenbird, and more). There was some construction across the street at the YMCA Camp, but it wasn't very loud. We enjoyed hikes nearby at the quarry preserve and the state park near Chester. The drive to Amherst area wasn't bad - less than an hour, depending on traffic around Northampton and Amherst. It was much nicer to stay out in the mountains than in a busy college town. I would definitely recommend this rental, as long as the people renting can handle the stairs.
