The Bauhaus Center is a celebration of the Bauhaus, International and other architectural styles embraced by Tel Aviv’s architects. Learn about the White City, a UNESCO-protected area where around 4,000 Bauhaus buildings were built between the 1920s and 1940s. Then take a tour, which highlights many of the stand-out buildings that earned the neighborhood its coveted heritage status.
Begin your visit at the permanent exhibition, Preservation and Renewal - Bauhaus Buildings in Tel Aviv. Color photographs of refurbished Bauhaus landmarks located in the White City are on display next to historical shots and plans. They show the architectural movement in its original form and the tireless work that goes into preserving its identity. Multimedia exhibits honor the people that helped create Tel Aviv’s striking cityscape.
Traveling exhibitions delve into architectural preferences around the world such as the Art Nouveau masterpieces of Riga and the International style in German cities. Past exhibitions have included work by known artists and photographers, such as the late Parisian painter Serge Mendjisky. One exhibition, Those Who Transformed Sand Dunes into Streets, has visited 12 European cities.
Guided tours in multiple languages are hosted by the Bauhaus Center. These tours have a fee and take place every Friday morning. Start by watching a 25-minute-long introductory video and then hit the streets of the White City. Listen as your guide explains the history of around a dozen select buildings. Audio guides and a map are also available for rent if you are visiting on a non-tour day or prefer to explore alone.
Shop for Bauhaus-inspired souvenirs at the center’s shop. There’s everything from miniature versions of city landmarks and puzzles, to books, coasters and posters to choose from.
The Bauhaus Center is open daily and admission is free. Situated on Dizengoff Street, the center is easy to reach by public buses, taxis and sherut shared taxis. There’s a Tel-O-Fun bike station on the opposite side of the street. The Charles Bronfman Auditorium and Habima Theater are two nearby city attractions.
