Things started off bad. Our stay was booked from Sunday 4pm to Sunday 11am. messaged the host the Friday before to find out it was possible to check in early on Sunday because my elderly parents would be traveling with us. NO RESPONSE. Nothing. Crickets. Sunday afternoon, get a message with the code to access a physical key. The front door handle is upside down. Took me a couple of tries to even think to push up, not down on the handle. After unsticking the front door, we were greeted with spider webs. The floor in the kitchen was not clean, debris all over. Thankfully my parents had not arrived yet, so I roll up my sleeves and start cleaning. Over the next hour or so my 13 yr. old and I made it close to livable. There were crumbs in the cabinets, on top of the microwave, and something red and sticky on the trash can and floor. I typically rinse utensils before using anyway, but I ended up thoroughly washing everything before use. The blender had remnants of salsa making. Had to soak it to get rid of the smell. The washing machine was missing knobs and had detergent caked up around the dispenser. The main bath has mold around the tub. The house was gross, but I couldn’t bring myself to move my elderly parents again. The next day I contacted VRBO and the host. She asked to make to make it right, but refused to refund the cleaning fee. VRBO supervisor also made contact with host, she again declined. There was no further contact from host. We ended up leaving early.
