The road up to this property has hairpin turns, as it takes you up a mountain. It takes 30 minutes to get up to the house from its base, so grab your groceries ahead of time at the Food Lion.
It wasn't clear to me from the listing, but in case you are wondering, there is no mountain view from this house, at least not in June. It's possible that in colder weather the lack of leaves would allow for an obstructed view. From the front balcony- which is a lovely place to sit, but could use some rockers or side tables and/or ottomans- there is nonetheless a nice view of the forest and it is a pleasant place to sit and hear the birds and experience the weather.
The jacuzzi tub is nice. It is convenient that there is a small, fenced-in dog run in the back.
The wood floors, walls, and high ceilings are beautiful. The kitchen is nice but there were ZERO supplies- not even salt & pepper or condiments. We left some for the next guests, although we forgot salt and pepper at the store :(.
The WORST of it started with a drip of oil on the bottom of the oven, which not only set off the smoke alarm (to be expected- and this sort of thing happens), but ALSO engaged the security system. Suddenly a woman could be heard speaking over the very loud alarm and asking us for a code. I had read the binder thoroughly & there was no code listed. My husband yelled "WE DON'T HAVE A CODE" and we thought we could hear her saying she had to call someone. Not knowing who she would call (owner? fire department? management company?), I again scoured the binder, but no code materialized. My cortisone levels peaking, I found Yonder (property management co)'s phone number from an email I had received and got through to Kim- thank goodness she answered- I explained there was no emergency. Alas, Yonder did not have a code either. I gave her my cell number and she said she'd check into it and text me. At some point after that, the alarm sound stopped, thank goodness. Then she texted me and said she'd spoken to the owners and all was ok. She sent me a security system code, however that didn't work, so the alert still showed on all the key pads. THEN the poor volunteer fire department showed up. Nothing like strangers showing up at 9:30 pm when you're trying to enjoy a peaceful, isolated evening. Am I right?!
That incident really ruined our last night and left a bitter taste in my mouth. This was not an inexpensive property. I expected more.
