We spent 4 days at The Roost Cabin enjoying cross-country winter activities in the surrounding Bear Valley area. The cabin is beautifully situated in a quiet forest landscape and offers a nice getaway in the woods. Our host Marylin was very communicative and quickly responded to all requests. There are a few quirks (TV is located in an awkwardly high position above the mantle, a low-hanging light immediately above the couch which I guarantee you’ll hit with your head, worn and lumpy couch cushions, empty amenities in the bathroom), but overall, The Roost Cabin is a pleasant stay!
One note of caution: The driveway is somewhat steep at the beginning and levels off to a flatter parking section roughly 25’ up the driveway. We stayed right after a big snowstorm and the parking section was not completely cleared of snow. As a result, I had to park on the sloped section, but came out later in the evening to find the car had slide all the way down the driveway into the street. We had to clear the parking section by hand, re-parked and had no more parking issues.
As a final note, there are quite a few add-on fees (VRBO service, host service, cleaning, damage protection) that seem a bit excessive. These fees equated to almost 2 additional “nights”. To Marylin’s credit, she did work with us to refund a portion of the cleaning fee when we found a baited mouse trap in the bathroom inadvertently left by the cleaning service.
