Romantic Rainforest Retreat near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Kuuipo Cottage is a clean, secluded and relaxing slice of paradise. The cottage is surrounded by Hawaii native Ohia trees and Hapu'u ferns and includes your own private orchid garden which you can enjoy from the newly expanded patio. You won't want to leave, as many of our guests have commented in our guestbook. Kuuipo can accommodate up to four adults with a queen bed in the private bedroom and a queen size sofa sleeper in the living room. This home features a gas fireplace, a walk-in shower and a full kitchen, including stainless steel appliances and a granite bar top. It's only a 7-minute drive to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. There is plenty to do and see with nearby golfing, hiking, horseback riding, art galleries and much more. The city of Hilo is only twenty-six miles away with access to beaches, shopping, restaurants, and the Hilo International Airport.

Laundry facilities are available to guests staying three nights or longer.

Cozy and comfortable
My husband and I visit the Volcanoes area 2-3 time per year and have stayed in many different vacation rentals. We found this one to be more affordable than many but with similarly pleasant features. We especially enjoyed the quiet area, birdsong in the morning, coffee on the covered lanai, a nice hot shower when we needed it along with a comfortable bed to sleep in. We brought dinner from home (Kona) for one night and utilized the nicely set up kitchen. On Thanksgiving we joined others in the community to celebrate a traditional meal at Kilauea Military Camp in the park. Even tho we are always prepared for chilly and rainy weather, this time we were thrilled to have beautiful sunny skies with just the right amount of coolness so our jackets were not needed. Fabulous!

Beautiful property
Beautiful house but difficult to find in the dark with small numbers covered in plants. Hostess was away for our arrival but given her friends contact details and she was very helpful. Sadly only there for a short time as arrived late and left early. Great location for Volcano National Park etc. Would definitely recommend it. Had everything we needed.

Pretty cottage in the rainforest, well supplied with all the necessities of a relaxing stay or a launching point for activities. Far enough off the highway to not hear it but close enough for convenience.

A Place to Return To
We’ve traveled in Hawaii for the past 35 years and have rented numerous places near Hawaii Volcanoes NP. Cottage Ku’upio will be our favorite place to investigate in coming years. This cottage is fully outfitted, comfortable, and has a very nice remote feel. The bed is comfortable and the flooring throughout the cottage has such a classy Hawaiian feel. Loved being there.

The house was in nice condition with a fireplace! About 10 minute drive to the Hawaii Volcano National Park. We stayed for 2 nights, therefore we could not use the laundry washer and drier. But overall, we enjoyed our stay!

Pleasant
We enjoyed our stay… quiet and relaxing. The Kilauea Iki Crater Trail is very close and was a great hike… and the Lava Tubes are really neat. Volcano Village Lodge for breakfast and dinner was very good. PS: there is a little black on/off switch just below the knob on the fireplace that’s hard to find, but once you do, great heat and ambiance if it’s a chilly day.

Lovely cottage retreat
This cottage is so well appointed - it’s perfect for a couple. It had everything that we needed and was so clean! We spent a lot of time out on the lovely lanai - a beautiful breeze and sweet birdsong! I would highly recommend this beautiful place!

Great cottage
If you want to spend time near Volcanoes National Park, this cottage is five minutes away. It is in a beautiful rural neighborhood. The kitchen is stocked with pits, pans, utensils, etc. Everything was great, except maybe the mattress. It seems older because it was not very firm. But other than that, we loved our stay

Comfy Cottage
What a great little place to stay for visiting the Hawaii Volcano area! Ideal for a couple. Clean, modern cottage in the middle of the volcano rain forest about 5 minute drive from the park. Everything you can ask for. Nice bedroom, dehumidifier, TV (streaming stick), wifi. Nice covered deck and beautiful garden. We had a great time and would highly reccomend.

My BF and I stayed here last year and came back again this year with my two grandsons. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The kitchen and the lanai are perfect. Great location in Volcano. Just down the street from the entrance to the National Park. The volcano started erupting the morning we were checking out and they boys were able to go view it. Highly recommend

Lovely, secluded cottage
Clean, comfortable cottage near Volcano National Park. First impression of my wife when we arrived; “Wow, this is adorable”. The property is very clean and about as non-big-resort as you can get. Nearest neighbor is maybe 150 yards away. We fell asleep to the sound of frogs doing whatever they do and rainfall (this is called the wet side of the island for a reason), and woke to rooster doing his thing - far enough away to be just charming. Very pleasant stay.

Lovely sanctuary
Having the opportunity to stay in this beautiful, secluded cottage was wonderful. We had everything we needed including the warmth of the fireplace as some of our days were cloudy, rainy and wet! Such close access to Volcanoes NP was really nice as we could easily come and go. The grounds around the cottage were lush and beautiful!

Great Getaway
This home away from home had most everything you need. We made most of our meals in so we used most of the items included. It was great to have spices that we did not have to purchase. Had good communication with the overseer. The car port was really great as it rained the 3 days we were there. Would stay here again!

Perfect Cottage Retreat
This cottage was the perfect size and layout for the two of us as we explored this side of the big island. It's proximity to Volcano made going out for dinner very easy, but it's private lanai and yard made it feel like a great romantic hideaway. The kitchen also had everything we needed to prepare meals. We had such a nice experience here in spite of a couple of days of rain.

first time to the big island
house very easy to find and is located 5 minutes away from the volcanos national park. Also about 28 miles from hilo. Well appointed kitchen, nice shower, washer and dryer came in handy as we had been traveling for four days befor e arrival. Very private and for the most part quiet. Felt very safe and cozy.We ate at the Kilauea Lodge it was excellent. and shopped at true value where we got a single 1-2 time use box of tide. We could view the Volcano anytime we wanted because we were so close. We explored all the beaches and volcanos both active and dormant. Was nice to have a kitchen to cook in We truly enjoyed our little house and all that the Volcano area had to offer.

Peaceful Haven

This sweet cottage is a great jumping off point for exploring Volcano National Park, which is about 10 minutes away. The owner, Danielle, communicated clearly with us and the cottage is exactly as described. We loved staying here!

Stay here for Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
The cottage is cozy and peaceful. The bed was comfortable and we enjoyed sitting out on the patio. We picked this place for its proximity to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park; it’s about a 10 minute drive to the park and it made early morning and late night drives to the park super convenient. There weren’t house rules/info but we realized there was a dehumidifier in the closet, be sure to use it and empty out the water when it gets full to keep the humidity at a comfortable level. We would stay here again.
