"We arrived a bit early and we’re not allowed to receive the Ticino Ticket until check in (barely an hour plus later), which would have saved us money we had to pay for Public Transport. To be fair, we were allowed to leave the bags in the office, so that at least helped. Not a bad walk to the train station; the bus station is across the street. AC system had to be restarted due to recent repair to a neighbor unit, but once it was up it worked like a charm!"

"Luckily we arrived in daylight, as the road up to the Osteria zig-zagged in impossible hairpins up from the valley. It's possible that after dark and unlit we might just have turned around and headed for somewhere flat. However, if we had done we would have missed a completely unique experience. The hamlet of Anzonico clings to the side of an Alp and there is no vehicle access to the Osteria. Parking is in a lay by about 50 yards further up. "The hotel is perched on top of Ascona and isn’t in the old town but is about 10 mins walk down to the centre. There is limited hotel parking to call ahead to reserve it or else pay about 20 CHF per day at an offsite location which was a nuisance. This hotel has the ability to be nice provided it is EXTENSIVELY renovated. It is very dated but not in a charming way, it looks very tired. The bathrooms (& florescent lightning!) are old an cramped. The carpet in the room was also very old (hotels...
