The La Mirada House is 4 miles from Joshua Tree National Park and a short drive up from Joshua Tree Village. Enjoy its quiet setting and the expansive views in all directions. La Mirada is a place to come home to, filled with light, and reflecting a respect for the outdoor space.
Our 3 bedroom, 2 bath home is suitable for all: couples, groups, business travelers, families, and those who wander. Our hope is that you make time for coffee on the back glider and start the day soaking in the desert's positive energy.
Whether you are seeking a comfortable refuge after a day of invigorating hiking in the National Park or an oasis that makes it hard for you to leave, the views from our home are magical; beautiful vistas in the daytime and plenty of stars at night. Sit on the back porch and watch the sunrise on your right while our desert cottontail rabbits provide entertainment. If you are lucky, a jackrabbit may join the party.
The house is ideally situated between the village of Joshua Tree and the National Park on a paved road in a quiet neighborhood, very close to the many shops and restaurants of the village, just a three-minute drive from the house. The advantage of being slightly removed from the village is the deep silence you experience while enjoying the outdoors. There are neighbors out there (somewhere out there!) and they are far enough away to provide complete privacy. Cacti-filled lots surround the house on 3 sides, front, side, and back.
There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms, which work well for a group of friends, couples, or families. The futon in the living room can also be set up as a double bed. Those in your party may vie to sleep on the futon as it has an excellent memory foam mattress.
There is a California king bed, with a extremely comfortable memory foam-top mattress, in the western master bedroom, a queen bed, with an extremely comfortable pillow-top mattress, in the Queen’s room, and two twins, each with a tempurpedic mattress, in the bedroom with a more modern feel. The futon mattress in the living room is also a tempurpedic, memory foam mattress. The master has its own bath and the other two bedrooms share the “hallway” bathroom. The house also features a comfy living room with ‘smart’ 55” TV, a Blu-Ray DVD player (including DVDs of some of our favorite movies), a strong, wireless internet connection, a filtered-water system and ice-maker, a gas grill, an outdoor smoker/cooker for adding new flavors to favorite recipes, and a full kitchen with all of the tools for any discerning chef (blender, electric juicer, pots, pans, baking accessories, etc). Complimentary tea and coffee is always available. The dining area is designed to be as intimate as you like, or great for a larger gathering. The tables and chairs are intended to be moved around so you can create your own seating arrangements. There is also an outdoor dining area with plenty of seating across the back patio of the house. And please take advantage of our fire circle and enjoy the star-filled sky. Creations by local artists introduce you to what you will experience as you explore the village.
We have just recently added a hot tub! Better to enjoy the stars. There are some guidelines and requests for using the tub, which we will send to you along with other details you need to know to locate and access the house.
Some other additions to the house include yard games and low-lying cots for stargazing.
While we do accept pets, we also have a Pet Policy. And we would also like to know what kind of pet you have and how large they are. Our Pet Policy is here:
All pets need to remain on the floor and stay off ALL furniture. You will need pick up and dispose of all droppings from the front and back yards. Failure to comply to these two simple requests will result in loss of the full damage deposit.
We do charge an additional $20 per person per night for groups over two. Eight is the maximum number our house can bear.
Please be aware that only toilet paper can be flushed down the toilets.
All bedding and towels are included.
The entire house is yours for the duration of you stay.
While we will not be at the house during your stay, feel free to contact us with any questions! We are available via email, phone, or text. We have a lot of local recommendations to share.
There are also local folks available to assist with any unmet needs or deal with any situations that may arise.
For check-in, we'll give you a code to the lockbox to get the key and you can arrive anytime after 3 pm and check yourself in. Please leave the second key in the lock box in case you accidentally lock yourself out. Put the keys back in the lock box before checking-out at 11am.
We will interact through phone and email. During your stay you will have complete privacy.
We are Lynn and Paul, an artist and a physicist who live mostly in Encinitas, CA. We have come to love Joshua Tree and have a great respect for the desert. We want to share this sentiment and, with that intention, have created this vacation home for you to enjoy. We hope you love it as much as we do.
HOUSE RULES
Respect the house, respect the desert, and respect the neighbors.
Respect the house: treat our home like it is your home. Absolutely no smoking of any kind is allowed in the home, including vaping. Outside smoking only. And any cigarette ‘butts’ found on the ground will cost you $1.00/butt. Smoking in the house will result in an increased cleaning fee of an additional $100.
Respect the desert: do not remove anything from the desert and do not touch the desert tortoises. And remember it is the desert! There will be critters and extreme temperatures.
Enjoy the fire pit! And never leave the fire unattended. Always use the wire screen/spark arrestor. Fully extinguish fires when the wind kicks up.
Please do not bring firewood from home. You could unwittingly introduce non-native bugs and/or tree-borne diseases into our ecosystem. In the case of an emergency, there is a fire extinguisher under the kitchen sink and another in the garage.
Respect the neighbors: Sound travels easily in the desert; respect (and enjoy!) the silence
Lastly, respect the darkness! Better for you to view the night sky.
Please contact us first if you plan to use the property for a commercial photo shoot, documentary, or other film purposes.
