When I originally booked with Expedia, I pre-paid for my room. When I arrived to check in, the hotel staff either refused to acknowledge that I had already paid, or the reservation was genuinely not in the hotel's system. I was forced to pay a rate more than double my what I initially paid at check in, lest I wanted to go wander around an unfamiliar city where little English is spoken at 8:30 PM after a long day of travel.
