I was misled by the Expedia rating of a four star hotel. It’s an older building in a high rise that was possibly renovated over 10 years ago. It’s really a three star hotel.
The windows don’t open and they don’t have adequate ventilation. When you check in, they make you sign a waiver that if you trigger the alarm due to steam from the shower that you would be fined $1167. This is the only hotel I’ve ever stay that had such a waiver.
On the weekend, you can hear the music from the bar in the hotel across the street running quite late into the night.
Check in wait time took about 20 minutes. They had two people help one person. I was the only other person waiting and they were in no rush. The reception wasn’t rude but she wasn’t pleasant or helpful. She didn’t even tell me any of the amenities the building had to offer, only things I shouldn’t be doing (ie: shower with the door open). They charge a visa surcharge when paying in person.
The hotel is located in an LGBT neighborhood. If you leave, turn left and walk five minutes to Kings Cross Station you are in a seedier part of town. If you leave and turn right, walk for 15 minutes, then you are in a nicer part of town. Weekdays, trying to find food after 9PM in this neighborhood is difficult as everything is pretty much shut down.
There is nothing wrong with the hotel. It is that the four star rating lead to disappointed expectations. I would not recommend this area as a tourist.
