It's a motel and the location is pretty good. Everything is in walking distance since it's a small town. Yet, the lodge is too old and it's on the main street. You can hear everything, even the snores next door.

It was absolutely disgusting! The property is considered “historic” and they use that as an excuse to not replace the stained and worn out mattresses, bed sheets, and blankets. Stains on pillows too. There were footprints and crumbs on the blankets and there was so much cigarette smoke that I had an asthma attack shortly after arriving. GROSS!

Bedding and towels were not clean. Hair, dog hair, grime, stains on sheets and towels. Grime and dust in all corners. Dirty carpet. Bad patch job around bottom of walls and corners. Hole in closet door. Tub/shower was as high as mid way up my thigh. Very difficult to step in and out of, nothing to hold onto. No screen on window. Chain latch for door broken. Space under door was big enough for mice to go under. Electrical socket not attached properly to wall. No smoke detector. We did notify the person at the front desk. When we showed him pictures of the hair and dog hair on the bedding, he said the guest before us had, had a service animal. We got clean sheets, but he was reluctant to give us new blanket. He was saying that the top blanket was clean, but the fuzzy middle blanket he admitted was dirty, and hadn't been washed. Why would I want a supposedly clean blanket that had been on a dirty one? He ended up getting a top blanket. It didn't smell fresh at all, and was damp. We did stay because we had no other option. Very disappointing. We will not be returning.

Upon check in, we were shown to the room that the innkeeper said was “the most historic room in the house”, whatever that means. The room was indescribable, whatever I say does not compare to the harsh reality of the room. Dirty, unsanitary, filthy, dirty ceramic tile floor with spills, walls in grave disrepair. Horrible patch job with parts of wall crumbling. Bath tub had some black mold. Wall under bathroom sink had a horrible case of black mold. Front door in disrepair, you would need to see the pictures of the place to believe it Front door lock did not seem to be working. Absolutely did not feel safe there. DID NOT STAY. We checked right back out. Was not offered any other options. Had to find another place to stay, regardless of the cost. The entire grounds were unsafe and in disrepair. The first thing to hit me when i walked in the room, was the smell of dirty water. I don’t know how to really explain. Like a cold, wet, unkept building and there was no smoke detector or carbon monoxide alarm. It’s really a shame:-(. They had both windows open to air out the room I guess. The front desk person closed one so I can’t say, but I closed the bathroom one and it had no screen.

The gentleman who runs the front desk is absolutely amazing. I had to keep staying overnight for about a week and before check out he would always come and check to see if I was gonna stay another night or if I was checking out, he made every possible accommodation to keep me in the same room. Really great people who run this place we need more places like this.

The Gunn House is a historic inn. Expect older antique furniture and surroundings. The breakfast is home cooked egg casserole, muffins. cake and make your own waffles, plus toast, cereal, jelly, and peanut butter. Hot coffee. Harry was great and not only cooked breakfast but made sure everything was replenished. Quiet and efficient wall heater. Plenty of hot water for your shower. All was very nice.
