House on the beach! Watch the sand, water and sunsets from the great room through its endless windows, or from the wooden deck just in front, or from the grassy lawn, or from the main bedroom’s wall of windows above it all. Then take a beach walk or swim in the Long Island Sound. With stunning panoramic views, it is the perfect mix of privacy and easy beachfront living.
This renovated1940s beach house, which we call the “Sandbox,” is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, boating, fishing, walking, jogging and playing with the kids. Even on rainy days it’s lovely – play games or read a book while watching the water (we have board games, cable and a couple of TVs). Or just lay back on our 9-foot sofa and watch seagulls through the skylight of the cathedral ceiling. The sunsets are spectacular and can be seen from the deck and dining table in the summer. So can the sunrises... but you'll sleep in.
The beach landscape is unusual for this region - bluffs overlooking calm, clear, vast water. Usually the Sound is so clear that you can see your feet. It is also warmer than the ocean. Very kid friendly. On windy days, the waves pick up and seem more like the ocean.
Sleeps comfortably up to 6 adults, 3 children on additional mattresses and 1 small child in a crib. The nursery off the master bedroom has its own Sound view. Parking area for 4 cars.
The neighborhood is teeming with local vineyards – the heart of Long Island wine country. There are 10 wineries within a 10-minute drive, including Palmer, Paumanok, RGNY, Jamesport, Macari, Jason's, Sherwood House, Clovis Point, Diliberto and Laurel Lake Vineyards.
Find fresh fruit and homemade apple pies at the numerous farm stands. The organic farm Garden of Eve is just 5 minutes by car, or you can even walk there. Pick berries, apples or pumpkins, depending on the season. Harbes farms and the quaint Brieremere are so close as well. You can find it all within 10 minutes of the house.
Explore delicious fine dining - North Fork Table, Jedediah Hawkins, Grana. We adore Love Lane Kitchen. And certainly don't forget to stop by the Love Lane Cheese Shop.
The water park, the aquarium and Tanger Outlet Mall are only 15 minutes away. The Hamptons can be reached in half an hour.
One of the best aspects of the house is that it is at the start of the North Fork, which means access to everything the North Fork has to offer but without a long drive to get there.

"It’s a great house. You really did a beautiful job with the kitchen and furnishings and all its amenities.... We loved the beach and the view - so private and beautiful. The sunrises and sunsets were spectacular. I was surprised to realize you can see both from the beach! Also, we were so thankful that we could bring Wylie [dog]. He had a blast. It was as if he had a previous life as a fisherman and this was his reunion with the sea. He spent the whole week hunting for dead crabs.... We were thrilled. A vacation we will never forget."
